We are seeking a highly experienced Network Architect/Engineer to lead the design, development, and evolution of Comcast's next-generation core and regional IP network architectures. This position is a Sr. Director equivalent on the individual contributor path. This role requires deep expertise across routing, transport, automation, and large-scale service provider backbone design. The ideal candidate brings proven experience driving complex network architecture programs, cross-functional technical leadership, and hands-on engineering depth across multiple routing platforms and protocols. - Highly senior Network Architect/Engineer role responsible for leading the design, development, and evolution of next-generation core and regional IP network architectures.
- Drives major national backbone initiatives, including software-driven core networks, Segment Routing, and controller-based traffic-engineering solutions.
- Leads definition, validation, and deployment of CLOS-based architectures, multi-plane designs, and disaggregated routing platforms.
- Develops end-to-end IP architectures supporting services such as CRAN, Cloud DVR, VOD, multicast distribution, and commercial backhaul solutions.
- Guides high-capacity transport integrations including DWDM, 100G/400G optics, and ZR+ technologies.
- Provides cross-functional technical leadership across product, engineering, operations, and vendor teams while shaping long-term technology roadmaps.
- Oversees automation frameworks leveraging OpenConfig, YANG, and modern telemetry pipelines to standardize configuration and simplify large-scale provisioning.
- Serves as Tier-4 escalation and SME for complex network issues, migrations, traffic shifts, M&A integrations, and large-scale operational programs.
- Mentors engineers at all levels, delivering internal training on routing technologies, automation, and tooling.
- Lead highly technical, hands-on engineering projects from concept through execution.
- Collaborate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, peer architects, and downstream engineering teams.
- Present complex technical and architectural concepts to senior leaders with clarity and confidence.
- Translate high-level architectural strategies into actionable guidance for engineering teams at varying technical levels.
- Operate seamlessly in multiple roles, shifting between executive level communication, peer collaboration, and deep dive engineering work.
- Work closely with other senior engineers to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem solving.
- Blend architectural vision with hands-on engineering delivery to support end-to-end solution implementation.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in large-scale service provider or backbone network engineering.
- Deep expertise with OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, RSVP, and multicast protocols.
- Hands-on experience with major routing platforms including Cisco NCS/ASR/CRS, Juniper PTX/MX/QFX, Arista, white-box solutions, and DriveNets.
- Strong understanding of DWDM, 100G/400G optical transport, and ZR+ systems.
- Proficiency with IOS, IOS-XR, JunOS, and Arista EOS.
- Strong programming and automation skills using Python, Perl, MySQL, InfluxDB, and telemetry stacks.
- Experience building automation workflows leveraging OpenConfig and YANG models.
- Deep operational understanding of production environments and the ability to diagnose issues under pressure.
- Proven ability to lead multi-year, multi-site network architecture initiatives.
- Demonstrated success in influencing vendor software/hardware roadmaps.
- Strong technical depth with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and immediately engage when something goes wrong.
- Creative thinker capable of approaching problems from unconventional angles and designing innovative solutions.
- Strong executive presence with polished communication skills suitable for senior-level discussions.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and team processes.
- Unique hybrid of architecture-level strategy and engineering-level technical execution.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).
Preferred Skills
- CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent expert-level certification (active or inactive).
- Prior publications, patents, RFC contributions, or industry speaking engagements (eg, NANOG, SCTE).

Benefits & conditions
Pay Range: This job can be performed in New Jersey, and Denver Campus with a Pay Range of $196,029.69 - $294,044.54. Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
