Job description

Ideal candidate will be a network engineer with expertise in routing and switching, firewalls, and virtualization technologies to support and secure TVA's real-time operational networks. This role implements, operates, and maintains OT infrastructure in support of mission-critical transmission operations. Ideal candidate would have experience with one or more of the following: Cisco IOS/NX-OS/IOS-XR/ISE, Palo Alto Networks, VMware suite (NSX, AVI, vSphere, etc.)., * Plans, schedules, coordinates and performs work for the analysis, specification, design, development, installation, test, documentation, and maintenance of real time process monitoring/control computer systems, and related technical/scientific security applications for power generating stations.

  • Performs work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and application of analysis and programming techniques, procedures, and standards, but which may include a variety of conflicting requirements or constraints and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply software quality assurance requirements and programming standards to situations which are not straight forward and for which little procedural guidance is available.
  • May coordinate the work of others who assist in specific assignments.
  • Leverage advanced knowledge in multiple technologies; collaborate with peers to analyze performance of components and systems to trouble shoot, evaluate performance, and determine capacity. Uses root cause analysis, corrective actions, tactical planning and strategic planning to correct problems, provide improved response and project long term investments required to provide sufficient support for IT Services to the business.
  • Maintain the infrastructure to assure compliance with configurations, patches and approved designs. Active participant in the change management process to properly execute change with minimum impact to the services provided.
  • Participate with peers as needed to properly support the infrastructure on a 24x7 basis including on-call duties
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and associated training for managing infrastructure, resources, administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to the participation in audits, security reviews, incident investigations, and presentations for TVA at professional events.
  • May serve as a work leader, in a non-supervisory leadership position, having job-related responsibilities to lead project assignments in a broad or specialty area.
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP Regulatory Requirements within Control Centers

Supervision Received

Independently performs assignments with general instructions as to objective, scope, schedule, expected results, and approach. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Testing and evaluation?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Strong interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to analyze complex technical problems and situations and independently arrive at optimal solutions.

  • Ability to manage or participate on complex issues impacting the infrastructure.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Cisco: IOS, NXOS, ISOXR, Router, Switch Firewall, F5 Load balancing, RSA authentication.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of a broad range of management, compute and networking technologies.
  • Ability to work with or lead a cross-functional team of IT professionals.
  • Must have an in-depth working knowledge of TVA High Availability Systems and/or Critical Infrastructure

Knowledge of server security issues and the use of system security features and/or firewall implementation. Capable of a high degree of self-motivation and self-direction. Ability to write scripts in some administrative language such as Tk, Perl, "C", and various shells scripting languages. In-depth understanding and highly proficient in the use of the UNIX and/or Windows NT operating systems used at TVA ¾ understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device drivers, file system concepts, and system performance tuning techniques and tools; Visual Basic, VB.Net, C ++, Windows NT, OLE Automation, SQL Server 2000; Cisco Certification is required, as well as knowledge of Symantec products.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent in education, training and experience is required. Four or more years experience in the use of fundamental concepts and practices related to computer system development and security maintenance; the analysis, specification, development, modification, maintenance, testing, and documentation of computer systems and software used in process monitoring/control systems and technical/scientific software applications related to power generation; and technical writing. Membership in professional technical societies is desirable.

Must be able to obtain and Maintain ADP I Clearance. Must be able and willing to assume on-call rotational assignments which may include 24/7 availability. Travel will be required at times to carry out project work. Must be willing to relocate if necessary to ensure a maximum of 1/2 hour response time to the System Operations Center and the Regional Operations Center in Chattanooga.
