Job description

We're seeking a Controls Software Designer to join a growing engineering team supporting the design, development, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working through the full project lifecycle-from PLC and HMI development to startup and troubleshooting of equipment on the plant floor.

You'll collaborate closely with electrical designers, project managers, commissioning teams, and customers to deliver high-quality automation solutions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC programs using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000
  • Design and support FactoryTalk HMI applications
  • Troubleshoot and debug automation systems during startup and commissioning
  • Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation
  • Support project teams throughout design, build, and implementation phases
  • Ensure controls software complies with customer standards and project requirements
  • Work closely with electrical hardware designers to verify system functionality
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and software standardization efforts

Requirements

  • 5+ years of controls engineering, automation, or PLC programming experience
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000)
  • Experience developing or supporting FactoryTalk HMI systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical and pneumatic control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
  • Experience commissioning and debugging automated equipment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience with Siemens PLC platforms
  • Automotive manufacturing or automation experience
  • Robotics, conveyor, or assembly system experience
