Job description
The Test & Evaluation Lead is responsible for developing and executing verification, validation, and operational test strategies for advanced autonomous platforms and supporting systems.
This role ensures systems are tested in a structured, repeatable, and operationally relevant manner throughout development, integration, and deployment. The right candidate understands that effective testing is not a downstream activity. Verification strategy, acceptance criteria, instrumentation, safety readiness, and operational evidence are expected to influence engineering decisions throughout development.
Marcurius operates in a highly integrated engineering environment where technical decisions are reviewed collaboratively across disciplines. This role is not intended to operate as a narrow silo. The purpose of this integrated approach is to identify integration, performance, safety, and verification risks early before they become operational or program-level issues.
This role operates directly within engineering execution and contributes to technical decisions from a testability, verification, and operational readiness perspective throughout the program lifecycle., * Develop and execute verification, validation, and operational test strategies for autonomous platforms and supporting systems
- Define test plans, acceptance criteria, instrumentation approaches, data collection strategies, and verification methodologies
- Review drawings, design packages, requirements, and engineering change proposals from a testability and verification perspective
- Evaluate acceptance criteria, instrumentation requirements, safety readiness, operational evidence, data quality, and verification strategy throughout development
- Participate in multidisciplinary engineering reviews to ensure systems are designed with practical testability and verification in mind
- Coordinate laboratory, dockside, field, and operational testing activities
- Ensure testing activities are conducted safely, methodically, and with proper operational controls
- Develop structured test procedures, verification documentation, and reporting approaches
- Coordinate with engineering teams to identify failure modes, integration risks, and performance issues early in development
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective action development during testing activities
- Ensure test data is organized, traceable, and useful for engineering refinement and program decision-making
- Support transition from prototype testing to operational validation and acceptance activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience supporting system integration, verification, validation, testing, or operational evaluation activities
- Experience developing structured test plans and verification methodologies for complex systems or integrated platforms
- Familiarity with instrumentation, data collection, operational testing, and technical troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of verification and validation principles within engineering development environments
- Ability to work directly with multidisciplinary engineering teams during fast-paced development programs
- Strong practical engineering judgment, problem-solving capability, and attention to detail, * Experience supporting unmanned or autonomous systems programs
- Marine, aerospace, robotics, or defense systems testing experience
- Experience supporting field testing, operational demonstrations, or acceptance testing
- Familiarity with systems integration, troubleshooting, and configuration management
- Experience supporting prototype-to-operational transition programs
- Startup or early-stage product development experience
- Familiarity with safety management and operational readiness processes, This role is hands-on and field-oriented. The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position:
- Ability to work onsite in laboratory, shipyard, fabrication, waterfront, and marine testing environments
- Ability to board vessels and participate in dockside and field testing activities
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during testing and operational evaluations
- Willingness and ability to travel as required for testing, operational support, demonstrations, and integration activities
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions
