Step into a senior technical role where your architecture, hardening, and automation skills-particularly in Linux environments-directly enable engineers building critical Department of War technologies. As a SysAdmin, you are the technical authority for program-owned infrastructure: designing secure identity and network patterns, leading incident response, establishing STIG-aligned baselines for Linux and hybrid platforms, and driving automation so our systems are reliable, auditable, and fast. You'll collaborate with DevSecOps on cloud and CI/CD platform integration, and help prove readiness through RMF/ATO evidence, vulnerability closure, and measurable SLAs.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators.
- Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
- Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
- Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
- Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.
- Position will be on-site in Roanoke, VA.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience administering and securing primarily Linux enterprise environments
- Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and firewall concepts
- Experience performing system hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation
- Proven ability to manage multi-user system environments and collaborate with network, security, and engineering teams
- Experience developing or maintaining system documentation, configurations, and operational procedures
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and meet program-specific eligibility requirements
Systems Administrator II3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
Systems Administrator III6 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience.
Systems Administrator IV10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements
- Active TS/SCI clearance preferred
- Demonstrated experience hardening systems using DISA STIGs and supporting RMF/ATO efforts
- Expertise with infrastructure automation (Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell DSC, or similar)
- Experience designing and managing identity services (AD, LDAP, PKI) and Zero Trust-aligned architectures
- Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Nutanix, or similar)
- Familiarity with DevSecOps toolchains and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory)
- Strong background in monitoring, observability, and performance tuning
- Prior experience in a secure DoD, IC, or defense contractor environment
- Proven ability to lead incident response and root-cause analysis for enterprise systems
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work on-site in Roanoke, Virginia, supporting a secure, customer-facing environment
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
- Occasional lifting (up to approximately 25 lbs) for tasks such as moving equipment or racking hardware
- Ability to access data center or lab environments, which may require bending, stooping, or climbing short ladders
- Ability to travel occasionally for meetings, training, or mission support, if required
