Senior System Engineer

We're partnering with a highly regarded private investment firm to hire a Senior Systems Engineer who will play a critical role in maintaining, securing, and optimizing a complex IT environment across on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms (Microsoft 365 & Azure).

This position supports both internal corporate systems and high-touch client environments, offering a unique blend of infrastructure, networking, cloud, and security responsibilities in a highly visible setting.

What You'll Do

Infrastructure & Network Operations

• Manage and optimize on-prem, cloud, and client network environments, ensuring high availability and performance
• Administer Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and hybrid environments (Exchange Online, Active Directory)
• Support network infrastructure including VLANs, VPNs, switches, wireless systems, and access points
• Configure and maintain enterprise-grade firewalls and security systems (Palo Alto Networks a plus)
• Oversee endpoint protection, patching, MFA/SSO, and system hardening
• Manage virtualization and hyperconverged infrastructure (VMware, Nutanix)
• Monitor systems and respond to incidents, ensuring security, compliance, and operational integrity

Security & Systems Administration

• Support cybersecurity initiatives, including policy implementation and incident response
• Administer SIEM tools, endpoint detection, and data protection solutions
• Manage backup and disaster recovery systems (e.g., Veeam, Zerto)
• Conduct security assessments, phishing testing, and user awareness training

Project & Client-Facing Work

• Lead and contribute to infrastructure projects (upgrades, migrations, new implementations)
• Design and deploy LAN environments for client/household networks
• Provide white-glove technical support to executives and end users
• Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers on implementations
• Maintain thorough technical documentation and process improvements

Team & Operational Support

• Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues
• Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing IT team environment
• Participate in after-hours/on-call rotation
• Mentor junior team members and promote best practices

• 5+ years of experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, and enterprise infrastructure
• Strong background in Windows Server, Active Directory, GPOs, and hybrid environments
• Experience with enterprise network security, including firewalls, VPNs, and secure access controls (Palo Alto Networks a plus)
• Hands-on experience with VMware, virtualization, and/or hyperconverged environments
• Familiarity with backup/recovery tools (Veeam, Zerto or similar)
• Experience supporting MDM platforms (Intune, JAMF) and VoIP/cloud PBX systems
• Exposure to SIEM tools (Splunk, Sentinel) and data protection tools preferred
• Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash) is a plus
