Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to work on a contract basis for our premier client in San Diego. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a cutting-edge team developing the primary user interface for next-generation sequencing instruments. You'll work with modern technologies like Angular, TypeScript, and Electron while collaborating with talented UX designers and product teams to create intuitive experiences for clinical and research laboratory users., As a Senior/Staff UI Software Engineer, you'll be a key contributor to the Instrument Software team, responsible for the design, development, and technical direction of the Client Application - the primary touchscreen interface on next-generation sequencing instruments. You'll partner with UX designers, backend engineers, and product owners to deliver intuitive, high-quality experiences for clinical and research laboratory users., * Develop and maintain the Angular/TypeScript Client Application running within an Electron desktop shell across multiple instrument platforms

  • Drive technical decisions on front-end component design, state management (NgRx/RxJS), and shared library strategy

  • Build performant UI components using Angular and SCSS

  • Integrate with .NET backend services via auto-generated API clients (NSwag/OpenAPI) and SignalR real-time WebSocket hubs

  • Collaborate with UX designers to translate Figma designs into production-ready components with high visual fidelity

  • Work with product owners and developers to deliver high-quality software in a scrum team setting

  • Participate in code reviews and follow established patterns in the codebase

  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate applicability of new front-end technologies to platform development efforts

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with Angular (v15+), TypeScript, and RxJS reactive programming patterns

  • Strong proficiency with NgRx or equivalent Redux-pattern state management

  • Solid experience building component-based UIs with Angular Material and SCSS

  • Proficiency with front-end unit test frameworks (Vitest, Jasmine/Karma, or equivalent)

  • Experience consuming REST APIs and working with auto-generated API clients

  • Proficient with Git-based source control and CI/CD practices

  • Demonstrated success delivering high-quality software using agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) against formal schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Electron desktop application development and IPC communication

  • Experience with SignalR or WebSocket-based real-time front-end communication

  • Familiarity with Angular workspace architecture and shared library patterns

  • Experience building touchscreen-optimized or kiosk-mode interfaces

  • Experience in a medical device, regulated, or IVD industry environment

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)

  • Curious, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and team-oriented with strong communication skills, Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree (advanced degrees preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. 5+ years of experience in front-end or full-stack product software development, with demonstrated technical expertise.
