Job description

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to collaborate in design, development, and deployment of advanced digital twin solutions for retail processes. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in simulation modeling (Agent-Based, Discrete-Event, System Dynamics) with hands-on skills in 3D visualization, ML/AI integration, and agentic AI development. This role will play a critical part in building a scalable digital twin environment that accurately replicates retail operations-from supply chain flows and in-store customer behavior to workforce optimization and checkout systems. You will work cross-functionally with data science, software engineering, and retail operations teams to bring our next-generation retail digital twin to life.

About the team: The team focuses on AI discovery, research, and the design of algorithmic solutions to enhance operational efficiency in Walmart US stores. It specializes in rapid prototyping of machine learning, agentic AI, and simulation models. Members apply advanced skills in data science, predictive modeling, and data visualization to develop impactful solutions. The team collaborates closely across functions to translate business needs into data-driven strategies, ensuring scalable and sustainable model deployment. It fosters continuous learning and innovation to drive measurable improvements in store operations and customer experience.

What you'll do:

  • Design and implement Agent-Based Simulations (ABS) and Discrete-Event Simulations (DES) of retail processes using AnyLogic and other leading tools.
  • Model retail-specific dynamics, including customer journey, workforce scheduling, shelf replenishment, queue management, and supply chain logistics.
  • Integrate simulation models with real-world IoT and retail data pipelines for real-time synchronization.
  • Develop interactive digital twins of retail environments leveraging NVIDIA Omniverse and advanced visualization platforms.
  • Collaborate with UX and design teams to create immersive 3D experiences that stakeholders can interact with for decision-making and scenario planning.
  • Incorporate reinforcement learning and agentic AI into simulation environments to enhance realism and adaptability.
  • Develop scalable pipelines for data ingestion, feature engineering, and model deployment within the simulation ecosystem.
  • Collaboration & Leadership
  • Work with retail domain experts to ensure models accurately reflect store operations and business processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with AnyLogic (Agent-Based, DES, and System Dynamics).
  • Strong background in retail process modeling and operational research methods.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, and scripting languages for model integration.
  • Familiarity with APIs, cloud platforms, and data integration pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with NVIDIA Omniverse, Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar platforms for real-time simulation visualization.
  • Experience building interactive dashboards (Tableau, Power BI, Plotly, Dash) for simulation results.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Strong background in time series forecasting, optimization algorithms, and reinforcement learning.
  • Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks for intelligent agent development.
  • Deep understanding of retail operations, customer flow, logistics, and workforce optimization., Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.
