Job description
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Academic Planning and Enrollment, the incumbent is responsible for the continuity and management of the Databricks platform, Power BI workspace administration, and Tableau server administration. This role requires expertise in data management from data acquisition to data visualization, data modeling and architecture, and data warehouse administration for the Institutional Research and Analytics Data Warehouse (IRADW). With the transition from the RDS now complete, the incumbent maintains and optimizes the cloud-based data infrastructure, ensures platform reliability, and supports the ongoing development of the IRADW., + Databricks Platform Administration: Manages the Databricks environment including workspace configuration, cluster management, data pipeline development, security, and integration with campus data sources such as the CMS and CSU Datalakes.
- Business Intelligence and Dashboard Development: Manages Power BI workspaces and develops interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, Apache Superset, and other BI tools to deliver standard and ad-hoc data analytics to the campus community.
- Tableau Administration and Dashboard Development: Administers Tableau server including upgrades, security, user management, and site configuration. Publishes and creates Tableau dashboards and visualizations for standard and ad-hoc reporting needs.
- Data Analytics and Reporting: Develops and delivers standard institutional reports and responds to ad-hoc data requests. Applies statistical methods and data modeling to support campus decision-making, accreditation, and compliance reporting.
- Data Architecture and Warehouse Administration: Architects and maintains logical and physical data models. Administers the Institutional Research and Analytics Data Warehouse (IRADW) including data ingestion, quality assurance, and security.
- Data Governance, User Administration, and Other Duties: Manages user accounts and access across all platforms. Ensures data security and compliance with campus/CSU policies. Performs other duties as assigned. Department Institutional Research and Analytics Time Base 1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week. Requirements
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of research techniques, including methods for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data, as well as statistical procedures and principles. They are proficient in desktop word processing and spreadsheet software and have experience assisting in the development of questionnaires and research instruments. This individual is skilled in compiling, analyzing, and presenting data through various formats, including written reports, electronic platforms, web-based tools, and data visualization software such as Tableau, and possesses expert knowledge of website utilities. They communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally, collaborate well with others, and maintain a strong customer service orientation. Additionally, they are able to work effectively and inclusively with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds while applying both basic and advanced statistical analyses using PC-based software. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Telecommunications, or a related technical field and two years of related experience required. Preferred:
- Including or supplemented by an advanced understanding and applications of statistics, data management, programming, and data visualization. Graduate study in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering is highly desired.
- Two years of working experience in technical research, statistical analysis, data warehousing, and higher education business intelligence, including predictive modeling and institutional reporting. Relevant experience in Institutional Research in higher education including interpretation and presentation of data is preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in SQL, Python, and cloud-based data platforms - including data pipeline development, ETL workflows, and analytics workspace administration - will be given due consideration. Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, PeopleSoft, or comparable enterprise data systems is a plus.
- A demonstrated commitment to data culture and data literacy. Knowledge of data governance practices, Master Data Management, ETL processes, and database normalization is required. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP), version control (Git), and modern business intelligence tools is strongly preferred.

Hiring Rate: The hiring rate for this position is $6,492 (Step 1) per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,492 (Step 1) - $9,458 (Step 20) per month.
