Job description
As a Software Engineer, You will join one of our product squads-a small, durable team of engineers, a product manager, and a designer aligned to a specific customer or business outcome (payer experience, care-recipient experience, provider tooling, or our data platform). You will own meaningful slices of the product end-to-end: framing the problem with your squad, designing the solution, shipping it, and measuring whether it actually moved the metric you set out to move.
As a Software Engineer, we expect you to set technical direction inside your squad, raise the bar across our codebases, and grow the engineers around you through example and mentorship., * Collaborate with your PM and designer to transform ambiguous challenges into fully instrumented, production-ready software.
- Drive technical design for squad-led initiatives-drafting documentation, evaluating trade-offs, and steering the final decision.
- Develop and maintain production-grade systems across our web platforms, mobile applications, and third-party integrations.
- Troubleshoot complex, cross-system issues with a balanced approach of curiosity and composure.
- Continuously elevate our engineering standards through rigorous code reviews, proactive refactoring, and enhanced tooling.
- Leverage AI tools (such as Cursor, Copilot, and Claude) as a force multiplier and help define team protocols for their effective use.
- Investigate practical applications for AI, ranging from internal workflow automation to features that enhance the member care experience.
- Guide the engineers around you, ensuring the team is stronger and more capable through your mentorship.
Performance Metrics:
- Outcome Impact: Deliver measurable results for your squad by focusing on the most critical user and business problems.
- Technical Leadership: Influence technical strategy within your squad through design docs and code, shaping trade-offs early in the process.
- Code Quality: Write code that is testable and maintainable-whether human or AI-assisted-while holding the team to high standards.
- Problem Solving: Resolve intricate, cross-system technical challenges with a calm and methodical troubleshooting approach.
- AI Leverage: Utilize AI tools to enhance velocity and quality, contributing to the team's evolving standards for oversight.
- Mentorship: Actively grow the engineering talent around you through Pairing, feedback, and thoughtful code reviews.
- Trust: Build strong partnerships with product and design through reliable delivery and sound professional judgment.
How we work:
- Durable, small squads (PM, designer, 3-4 engineers) with full ownership of their roadmap and outcomes.
- High-velocity delivery utilizing trunk-based development, feature flags, and frequent weekly deployments.
- An experimental culture where we explore and define the best practices for AI-assisted engineering together.
- A balanced, light on-call rotation dedicated to maintaining squad-owned services.
- A remote-first environment across the U.S. supported by intentional, periodic travel for team alignment.
