Job description

This recruitment may close at any time, applicants are encouraged to apply immediately. ______________________________________________________DEFINITIONUnder general supervision, installs, configures, troubleshoots, and/or maintains a variety of computers and associated hardware, software, peripheral equipment, and communications equipment; conducts critical updates and security patches for operating systems, equipment drivers, and security configurations on appropriate devices; assists the Information Technology Officer as needed; performs related duties as required.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Information Technology Officer. Exercises no direct supervision of staff. CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis journey-level classification is responsible for independently performing technical duties in support of the District's information technology functions. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.Responsible for the setup, configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of company cell phones and desk phone systems, including user provisioning, voicemail and call features, carrier coordination, device maintenance, and end-user support. Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and/or maintains a variety of computers and associated hardware, software, peripheral equipment, and devices.Tracks and manages software subscription licenses.Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and/or maintains all network switches, routers, interfaces, wireless access points, servers, and firewalls, for functionality and security. Configures commercial software to meet specific defined needs; installs software and instructs departmental staff in the use of such applications; sets up accounts and access for appropriate software. Assists the Information Technology Officer as needed; coordinates, tracks and/or orders related products to maintain asset inventory including those with annual license fees, hardware service contracts and warranties; prepares and handles appropriate forms, documents, and correspondence; researches and recommends optimal technological products and solutions. Conducts critical updates and security patches for operating systems, equipment drivers, and security configurations on appropriate devices to ensure optimal performance and protection from potential security breaches and other cybersecurity threats.Manages the security badge creation and issuance process; oversees and configures access permissions and security protocols to safeguard sensitive and/or confidential information.Assists in the employee onboarding and offboarding process; assigns and sets up workspaces for new employees with proper equipment and access privileges; retrieves District equipment, deactivates access to secure areas, and ensure all security measures are implemented during the offboarding process.Maintains accurate inventory of IT assets, including computers, peripherals, software licenses, and other electronic devices; tracks and updates inventory lists with new and returned equipment; ensures all assets are accounted for.Observes and complies with all District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.Performs related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of: Operational characteristics of computer, network, server, and communication systems, hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.Principles, practices, methods, and techniques of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving computer, network, server, and communication systems hardware, software, and peripheral equipment issues.Security and monitoring devices, and procedures necessary to maintain the integrity and security of data.Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as well as industry standards and best practices pertinent to the assigned area of responsibility.District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.Techniques for providing a high level of customer service and effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and District staff. Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and programs, projects, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.Ability to: Perform a variety of technical support functions in the installation, evaluation, configuration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computers, hardware, software, servers, network and data communication, security, and other related technologies and equipment.Understand, interpret, and explain systems solutions to users; research technical materials to provide solutions to problems.Learn to use new and existing software and hardware.Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.Maintain accurate files and records.Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards relevant to work performed.Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy and procedural guidelines.Independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Effectively use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks.
