Job description
The Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a highly experienced AWS Cloud SME to support and enhance the State's AWS Organization and Control Tower environment. This role will serve as a senior cloud architect and technical advisor, helping agencies design, troubleshoot, secure, and optimize AWS solutions while mentoring internal teams and contributing to the State's Cloud Center of Excellence., AWS Environment Management
- Manage and maintain AWS Organizations and Control Tower environments
- Support multi-account AWS governance and operational best practices
- Ensure compliance with cloud governance standards and security controls
Cloud Architecture & Engineering
- Design, review, and implement AWS solutions that meet performance, security, scalability, and reliability requirements
- Lead architectural reviews and cloud design initiatives
- Support agency cloud migration and modernization efforts
Troubleshooting & Support
- Serve as senior escalation point for AWS infrastructure, networking, storage, and compute issues
- Troubleshoot connectivity challenges between AWS and on-premises environments
- Coordinate root cause analysis and remediation efforts across agencies and technical teams
Security & Governance
- Implement AWS security best practices including:
IAM Policies Service Control Policies (SCPs) Encryption Network Segmentation
- Security Governance Controls
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements
DevOps & Automation
- Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using:
AWS CloudFormation Terraform
- AWS CDK
- Support CI/CD automation and deployment pipelines
- Implement containerized and serverless architectures using: Docker ECS EKS AWS Lambda
Mentorship & Documentation
- Mentor cloud engineers and technical staff
- Develop cloud standards, architecture diagrams, playbooks, and technical documentation
- Support knowledge transfer and cloud capability development initiatives, AWS, AWS Organizations, Control Tower, AWS Landing Zone Accelerator, EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CDK, Docker, ECS, EKS, CI/CD, DevOps, Security Governance, SCPs, Encryption, Network Segmentation, Cloud Migration, Hybrid Cloud, Python, Bash, PowerShell, ITIL, Agile, Cloud Architecture, AWS Solutions Architect Professional
Requirements
Do you have experience in Virtual Private Clouds?, * Deep expertise with AWS services including:
EC2 S3 RDS VPC IAM Lambda CloudFormation
- Experience leading enterprise AWS migrations and implementations in complex multi-account environments
- Strong AWS networking expertise and troubleshooting capabilities
- Experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and Landing Zone Accelerator
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CDK
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
- Experience implementing AWS security controls, governance, encryption, and SCPs
- Experience with Docker, ECS, EKS, and serverless architectures
- Strong troubleshooting skills across AWS networking, storage, and compute layers
- Excellent communication, mentoring, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience leading technical design reviews and architectural discussions
Preferred Skills
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
- Government or highly regulated industry experience
HIPAA CJIS IRS 1075
- Knowledge of:
ITIL PMP Agile Methodologies Enterprise Governance Frameworks
- Experience with Hybrid Cloud and Multi-Cloud environments
