Join our dynamic team as a Data Center Operations Technician and become a vital contributor to maintaining and optimizing our infrastructure.
The Data Center Operations Technician supports the Site Operations Supervisor with the daily operation, maintenance, and readiness of the building and its systems. This role combines hands-on site support, system monitoring, contractor coordination, and compliance tasks to ensure the environment remains safe, secure, and prepared for data-center operations.
The position requires attention to detail, and consistent adherence to operational and safety protocols.
Duties
- Facility Operations and Maintenance
- Monitor data center facility infrastructure to maintain stable operations.
- Conduct scheduled walkthroughs to observe and document physical condition of infrastructure equipment and identify abnormal conditions or operational risks. Submit detailed reports and escalate issues based on severity and protocols.
- Respond to infrastructure alarms following established procedures.
- Support contractor coordination and compliance. Escort external maintenance technicians for maintenance and/or repair of facility infrastructure.
- Participate in maintenance inspections, site readiness assessments, and emergency response action plans.
- Maintain clean spaces.
- Assist with materials delivery/receipt, equipment moving, assembly, and installation.
- Assist with maintaining consumables inventory for data center operations.
- Responsibilities may include additional tasks, projects, or assignments as determined by management to address evolving departmental priorities and business needs.
Operational Monitoring
- Supervise environmental and support system dashboards (temperature, power, network alerts, etc.) and escalate anomalies according to the incident management procedure.
- Perform initial triage and resolution of basic alerts or support tickets.
- Coordinate with internal teams, customers, and service providers for maintenance or intervention when required.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Generate and / or quality check audit documentation in support of SOC2 and other identified frameworks.
- Ensure active site personnel and authorized visitors follow all safety and environmental procedures.
- Support audits and inspections.
- Escort and monitor contractors, maintenance technicians, and customer personnel as needed.
- May be asked to participate in a Health and Safety Committee.
Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with the Site Security team to ensure cross-functional awareness and alignment with organizational standards.
- Recommend operational improvements.
- Create, update, and manage relevant knowledge base articles supporting data center operations.
- Support Standard Operating Procedures development, improvement and reviews.
- Using Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and Building Management System (BMS) applications, assist in adoption and further development of user dashboards.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have a valid Aerial Lift Certification certification?, Do you have experience in Customer communication?, * Diploma or technical training in security operations, IT systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) preferred.
- Prior experience in a 24/7 monitoring or security environment (data center, industrial site, or critical infrastructure) is an asset.
- Familiarity with surveillance systems, biometric access controls, and ticketing tools preferred.
Skills & Attributes
- 1-3 years' experience in data center or critical infrastructure operations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of facility systems (cooling, power, UPS, backup generators, fuel systems) an asset.
- Experience with testing and terminating structured cabling (copper and fiber) an asset.
- Experience with SOC2 or other compliance frameworks an asset.
- Basic construction experience or familiarity with tools is an asset.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and client service skills.
- Familiarity with BMS/Monitoring tools is an asset.
- Valid driver's license.
- Certification for driving lifts is an asset.
- Written and spoken fluency in English is mandatory
- French is an asset.

- Work performed primarily onsite in and surrounding a secure data center environment.
- May involve occasional lifting (up to 25 kg / 55lbs) or extended standing during facility walkthroughs.
- Background and reference checks required.
- Commuting distance must be within 60 minutes of the facility.
