Job description
The role of Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is to ensure the products and services the company offers meet industry and customer standards through the development of processes, procedures, and staff, and review of quality products with the goal of achievement of functional KPIs and strategic objectives.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (non-inclusive)
· Inspect finished products, raw materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities for adherence to quality specs, current practices and LEAN methodology.
· Liaise with production to ensure projects are started, executed, and finished according to customer specifications.
· Communicate effectively/thoroughly to management and peers any test results or inspection findings outside of specifications. Manage process, label and materials review, and QA documentation control for and deviations to ensure defects are not reproduced.
· Manage product hold and release system.
· Identify non-conformances in quality or practices and take or recommend appropriate corrective action within scope of knowledge.
· Conduct all testing and inspection with accuracy and integrity and ensure testing is accomplished in compliance with company policies and procedures.
· Perform pre-startup inspections prior to startup of each new product, label, or packaging change.
· Collection, documentation, and destruction of retention samples.
· Keep accurate, complete, and legible records. Properly amend, identify, and file records. Transfer product testing results from paper records to system database.
· Perform routine maintenance tasks through the production technician on in-process equipment. Complete work orders to ensure proper maintenance, verification, calibrations are completed in a timely manner in accordance with quality requirements.
· Ensure all employees within production follow LEAN requirements.
· Enhance organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different demands; exploring opportunities to add value to job and work area accomplishments.
· Contribute to an environment in which all staff are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve individual and work area contributions to achieve desired business results.
· Participate in related staff, team, and/or task group meetings to ensure constant communication of key items.
· Maintain current knowledge for this position and within the work area through continuing education, subscriptions, certifications and memberships; develop thorough working knowledge of area methods, productivity and quality.
· Conduct a continuous study of internal processes and methods, research new technology and develop proposals for application of such technology for the purposes of cost reduction and process improvement.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Director - Operations and does not have supervisory responsibilities. The position is classified as hourly, non-exempt.

Education, training, and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in quality, business, or similar field with a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience (preferably in plastics manufacturing). An intermediate knowledge level of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required, as is experience working with an ERP (Epicor CMS). Must possess proficiency with databases (i.e. MS Access) or other management applications. Must possess the ability to build positive team relationships and achieve outcome-oriented objectives; working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN Enterprise) with a holistic viewpoint; ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to work independently, managing own calendar and deadlines while maintaining an awareness of other business dependencies, when completing assigned duties.

Must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret business and technical documents, flow charts, budget information, procedure manuals and so on; the ability to prepare required routine reports and correspondence; ability to communicate effectively with others (verbally and in writing), using skill and diplomacy and have the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Requires the ability to work within established health, safety and quality guidelines and the ability to organize workspaces, the workload and meet deadlines.

Must possess working knowledge in automated systems and terminology and the ability to develop and interpret related reports using spreadsheet, word processing and related software. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier and so on.

Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers/decimals and the ability to apply concepts of business math to practical situations.

Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format. Must possess strong knowledge, understanding and experience in various problem-solving and participatory management techniques.
