Job description

Azure & Windows Systems Engineer- £500/day via Umbrella - 6 Month Contract - Remote - SCC Flex Contract

We are looking for an experienced Windows & Azure Systems Operations (SysOps) Engineer to support the stability, security and compliance of a hybrid Windows and Microsoft Azure environment. This Windows & Azure Systems Operations (SysOps) Engineer contract focuses on operational excellence, automation and governance across enterprise infrastructure.

Your responsibilities as the Windows & Azure Systems Operations (SysOps) Engineer:

  • Execute Windows Server and Azure VM patching cycles, validate deployment compliance and remediate failed updates across the estate.
  • Monitor, renew and deploy SSL/TLS certificates across IIS Servers, Azure services and internal infrastructure to prevent service disruption.
  • Manage the full credential life cycle, including rotation, renewal and validation of service account passwords.
  • Own and resolve incidents and service requests within ServiceNow, working to agreed SLA targets.
  • Prepare, document and submit change requests (RFCs) through CAB processes to ensure risk mitigation and service continuity.
  • Administer and maintain Microsoft Azure core services, including Virtual Machines, storage accounts, network security groups and governance tooling.
  • Manage identity operations including user onboarding and offboarding within Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Maintain incident and request queues in ServiceNow and produce operational performance reports for stakeholders.
  • Design, develop and maintain PowerShell automation to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.

As a successful Windows & Azure Systems Operations (SysOps) Engineer, you will have:

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022) and Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven experience working within ITSM platforms, particularly ServiceNow, under structured SLA frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, service account dependencies and Entra ID application registrations.
  • Advanced PowerShell Scripting capability for automation, infrastructure management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using Azure Update Manager or similar enterprise patching tools.
  • Strong knowledge of NTFS permissions, Active Directory architecture and PKI/certificate life cycles (Microsoft CA, OpenSSL).
  • A process-driven mindset with clear understanding of ITIL practices, especially change, incident and request management.
