Job description
Akkodis is seeking a Data Scientist - Model Development & Analytics for a 6+ months Contract position with a client located in Fountain Valley, CA, The contractor supports the Data Intelligence Group (DIG) by developing, maintaining, and enhancing predictive models and analytics solutions that drive customer insights, subscription conversion, retention, and operational automation. Responsibilities include model development, scoring pipeline monitoring, troubleshooting batch processes, and improving existing analytical assets across DIG., * Build, validate, and maintain machine learning models (classification, forecasting) across the full lifecycle: data prep, feature engineering, training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Operate and monitor automated scoring pipelines and data workflows; investigate alerts, troubleshoot failures, and restore service levels.
- Perform root?cause analysis on batch/stream jobs and implement preventive controls (data quality checks, retry logic, alerting, and runbooks).
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation (design notes, model cards, SOPs) to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer.
- Partner with data engineering, platform, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, align SLAs, and deliver production?ready solutions.
- Support operational analytics and automation use cases, optimizing performance, cost, and reliability of existing processes.
- Conduct data validation and quality control across source, staging, and curated datasets; define acceptance criteria.
- Leverage generative AI and AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate model development, automate documentation, and improve engineering productivity across analytics workflows.
Requirements
- Technical Skills o Proficiency in Python (e.g., pandas, scikit learn) and SQL; experience with notebooks and Git.
- Hands-on experience with MLOps/orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Git, CI/CD, model registry) and production model deployment.
- Familiarity with big data / cloud data platforms (e.g., Spark/Databricks; Hive/Trino/Iceberg; cloud warehouses).
- Knowledge of ELT concepts, job monitoring, and log analysis.
- Ability to produce stakeholder ready insights using data visualization/BI tools.
- Familiarity with generative AI concepts and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI) for code generation, debugging, and workflow optimization.
- Analytical Skills o Strong statistical and ML fundamentals; capable of evaluating model performance, diagnosing drift, and improving feature/data pipelines.
- Ability to translate business questions into analytical approaches with measurable outcomes; excellent documentation and communication.
- Experience o Demonstrated success supporting production ML/analytics workloads in an enterprise environment.
- Proven cross functional collaboration with data engineering, platform/IT, and business partners.

Benefits & conditions
Pay Range: $50- $60/hr on W2 (The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.)
