Job description

We are seeking an experienced Data Designer/Data Architect to support the design, development and implementation of enterprise-scale data solutions within a large and complex government environment.

Working within a multidisciplinary delivery team, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing logical and physical data models, supporting data architecture activities, and ensuring data solutions align with organisational standards, governance requirements and strategic objectives.

The role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, solution architects, data engineers, analysts and product teams to deliver robust, scalable and compliant data architectures supporting the clients digital transformation agenda.

Data Designer/Data Architect - SC Cleared - £450 per day OUTSIDE IR35 - Fully Remote

This temporary contract is outside IR35 and will be delivered on a statement-of-work basis. The supplier will determine the method, resources, and approach to deliver the agreed outcomes

This temporary contract requires the successful candidate to undergo and be eligible for UK Security Vetting at SC/DV level. Clearance sponsorship will be provided where required. Due to the nature of the work, candidates should meet the relevant residency requirements. If applicable, reserved post nationality restrictions will be confirmed by the client. Due to the secure nature of the position and working environment, you must have, or be eligible to obtain Security Clearance, Data Architecture & Design

  • Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models.
  • Develop data architecture artefacts in line with enterprise standards and architectural principles.
  • Define data structures, metadata models and integration patterns.
  • Support the design of data flows, ingestion pipelines and data storage solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data dictionaries and business glossaries.
  • Ensure data architecture supports operational, analytical and reporting requirements.

Data Governance & Standards

  • Apply data governance frameworks, policies and standards across data solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with government security, privacy and data management requirements.
  • Support metadata management and data lineage activities.
  • Promote best practice in data modelling, master data management and data quality.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Translate business needs into effective data design solutions.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams on data architecture matters.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and design assurance activities.

Delivery & Continuous Improvement

  • Support agile delivery teams throughout the solution life cycle.
  • Contribute to architecture roadmaps and design decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data architecture processes, standards and tooling.
  • Assist with impact assessments and change initiatives affecting enterprise data assets., Key Deliverables

Working Arrangements

  • Fully remote within the UK.
  • Participation in virtual ceremonies, workshops and stakeholder sessions.

Success Criteria

The successful contractor will:

  • Ensure compliance with governance, security and architectural requirements.
  • Support successful delivery of strategic digital transformation initiatives.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience operating within Data Modelling and Design.
  • Ability to work autonomously under general direction on complex assignments.
  • Experience providing guidance and support to team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to investigate business data requirements where complexity and ambiguity exist.

Technical Experience

  • Strong experience in conceptual, logical and physical data modelling.
  • Experience with relational and dimensional modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data architecture principles and frameworks.
  • Experience designing data solutions in cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure or GCP).
  • Understanding of data warehousing, data lakes and modern analytics platforms.
  • Experience with metadata management and data lineage concepts.
  • Knowledge of data integration patterns and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Familiarity with data governance and data quality frameworks.

Tools & Technologies

Experience with some or all of:

  • Erwin, ER/Studio, Sparx EA or equivalent modelling tools
  • SQL
  • Azure Data Platform, AWS Data Services or GCP Data Services
  • Databricks
  • Power BI
  • Informatica, Talend or equivalent integration tooling
  • Jira and Confluence

Desirable Experience

  • Previous Government Digital Service (GDS) and public sector experience.
  • Understanding of Government Digital and Data (DDaT) standards.
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with tax, revenue, finance or citizen services data domains.
  • Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK principles.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud migration programmes.
