Job description

A specialist engineering recruitment partner is supporting a growing consultancy within the power and utilities sector in the appointment of a Principal Power Systems Design Engineer.

This is a key hire, offering the opportunity to lead complex infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK, working at the forefront of power systems design and integration. The role will suit an experienced engineer looking to take technical ownership, influence project delivery, and contribute to the transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design of power systems across voltage levels ranging from 11kV to 132kV

  • Deliver designs from feasibility through to detailed design and final approval

  • Integrate renewable energy systems, including PV and BESS, into grid infrastructure

  • Develop and implement SCADA systems for substations and energy projects

  • Apply expertise in communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3, and MODBUS

  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (BS, BSEN, ENA, IEC) and H&S regulations

  • Provide technical assurance, design reviews, and sign-off

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to client engagement and business growth

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (IET or equivalent)

  • Minimum 7+ years' experience within power systems design (T&D sector)

  • Strong experience with HV equipment and substation design

  • Proficient in SCADA systems and CAD tools

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines
