Job description

SUMMARY: Summer employment opportunity for students interested in technology and hands-on experience in an educational IT environment. This role supports the Alpena Public Schools IT Department in maintaining, organizing, and deploying District technology., Under the supervision of the IT Director,

  • Repairs, cleans, and tests Chromebooks and other student devices.

  • Unboxes, labels, provisions, and performs inventory of new hardware (laptops, desktops, peripherals).

  • Identifies, sorts, and organizes existing technology inventory.

  • Disposes of retired technology in accordance with District policy.

  • Creates and tests Ethernet network cables.

  • Assists with audio and visual equipment setup, teardown, and minor troubleshooting.

  • Performs data entry tasks into asset tracking and ticketing systems.

  • Supports inventory control efforts.

  • Maintains accurate documentation in the IT ticketing system.

  • Assists with basic setup and troubleshooting of classroom technology (e.g., projectors, smart boards, printers).

  • Escorts or shadows full-time technicians during onsite visits to schools.

  • Provides courteous customer service to staff members & reports unresolved issues to IT staff.

  • Maintains clean and orderly workspaces, tech carts, and storage rooms.

  • Adheres to all District data privacy and acceptable use policies.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Basic math?, QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions., Must be a high school student or recent graduate, age 16 or older. No prior experience is required. Training will be provided for all duties. Successful candidates will gain practical skills in hardware support, inventory management, and basic networking. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to school employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, quantities, etc.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Interest in computers, networking, or technology preferred.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and follow directions.
  • Practice good personal hygiene and maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized.
  • Able to work independently and with a team.
  • Basic familiarity with Google Workspace is helpful.
  • Able to lift and move items up to 40 pounds.
  • Commitment to complete the full summer schedule as agreed upon., While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
