Job description
We are seeking an experienced Software Architect, or Technical Director with direct experience in modern development practices and technologies, and is comfortable leading modernization efforts that involve working in partnership with external organizations. This highly visible role will have technical authority for shaping the next generation of software architecture, CI/CD development pipelines, and execution. The successful candidate will drive execution of the evolutionary software infrastructure roadmap, working in partnership with a small team of high-performing run-ahead engineers on emerging technologies and approaches.
THE WORK
As your primary responsibility, you will operate in either a Software Architect or Technical Director role in front of a weapon control system program's modernization, playing an active role across all software development activities - from its design and description to hands-on development and testing.
As the modernization efforts expand in future years, this technical leader will provide an essential role in enabling the broader program organization to transition into this new development environment that the successful candidate helped shape., * Lead Software Architecture strategy and execution for modernization capabilities, ensuring alignment with program objectives and mission outcomes.

Ability to Lead and participate in the development of trade study evaluations for best-fit application of modern commercial technologies into existing weapon control system programs.

Drive modern software development approaches leveraging cloud computing, containerization, and microservices architectures.

Oversee software deployment across both cloud and on-prem hardware to verify requirements across deployment configurations.

Lead planning and execution of tasking for modernization-focused activities.

Provide technical oversight of modernization software activities, and reporting.

Drive Agentic and GenAI workstreams and tools into the software development processes accelerate refactoring of legacy code into modernized interfaces and environments.

Provide technical oversight of a weapon control system's modernization activities, and reporting.

Lead high-visibility demonstrations and checkpoint events, integrating Lockheed Martin and partner solutions for customer-facing validation.

Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop and execute a program modernization roadmap, while assisting to identifying resource, staffing, and capability needs.

Collaborate with product owners, AI specialists, security, finance, and program managers to deliver scalable, containerized solutions that accelerate development across the enterprise.
Requirements
You are comfortable leading the software architecture / development strategy for modernization efforts, while also engaging hands-on in day-to-day development activities. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and are motivated by delivering solutions that perform in real-world conditions., * 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 1 years in architectural defining roles.

Experience with development and deployment using cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

Strong background in micro-service design, CI/CD, and DevOps tooling.

Experience with AI/ML integration and modernizing legacy code bases.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
Desired Skills:

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
