Job description

This role is for an experienced Cognos Administrator who will support Cognos BI staging and production environments within an enterprise reporting and business intelligence environment. The administrator will be responsible for installing, upgrading, configuring, tuning, maintaining, and supporting Cognos enterprise reporting tools across a large-scale architecture.

The environment includes Cognos BI, EDW Teradata, Hadoop data lake, Tableau data visualization, and enterprise production reporting systems. This person will work closely with developers, DBAs, infrastructure teams, internal users, and external users to support Cognos administration, production stability, security, reporting packages, migrations, and troubleshooting.

What You'll Do

  • Install, upgrade, configure, tune, and maintain components within an enterprise-wide Cognos architecture.
  • Support Cognos BI staging and production environments.
  • Assist with Cognos upgrades, including legacy Cognos 8.4 to Cognos 10.2 environments.
  • Support Cognos security and administration for internal and external users.
  • Create and modify Cognos roles, Active Directory groups, user access, and user interface portals.
  • Implement, test, and document new and updated Cognos reporting packages for production release.
  • Perform day-to-day Cognos administration tasks, including creating folders, reports, users, and security roles.
  • Migrate reports, folders, and users from Development to QA to Production.
  • Support Cognos configuration requirements for new clients and client database migrations.
  • Partner with DBAs to set up and test new Oracle data sources used by Cognos.
  • Coordinate and plan Cognos, database, and infrastructure-related activities and outages.
  • Support developers by troubleshooting report issues related to Cognos configuration and report SQL.
  • Troubleshoot slow-running and non-functioning reports scheduled in InfoXpress and/or Cognos.
  • Assist internal and external clients with Cognos problem reports.
  • Demonstrate and support Cognos tools, including Analysis Studio, Report Studio, and Query Studio.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • 5-7+ years of Cognos administration experience.
  • Enterprise Cognos experience in a large user environment, ideally 5,000+ users.
  • Experience supporting Cognos in Windows and Unix environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Cognos installation, configuration, tuning, and production support.
  • Strong Cognos security and administration experience.
  • Experience with release management, batch schedules, reporting, and Cube Builds.
  • Experience supporting Cognos reporting packages and migrations across Dev, QA, and Production.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Cognos configuration issues, report SQL issues, slow-running reports, and production issues.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support internal and external users.
  • Strong ownership, leadership, and ability to work across development, database, infrastructure, and business teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Cognos 10.2 expertise.
  • Cognos 11.x experience is a plus.
  • Experience with EDW Teradata environments.
  • Experience with Hadoop data lake environments.
  • Tableau data visualization exposure.
  • Oracle data source setup and testing experience.
  • Experience with InfoXpress.
