Job description

IvoryCloud is seeking a Data Engineer to lead data migration, data architecture, and integration engineering activities for a Federal system modernization effort. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience modernizing Microsoft SQL-based federal application data environments, designing ETL pipelines, and establishing trustworthy, high-quality data flows that support operational transactions, reporting, analytics, and secure inter-system exchange. This role is central to modernization because the modernized platform must preserve historical access, improve data completeness and standardization, and support interfaces to mission systems and downstream analytical outputs., * Lead the data engineering strategy for modernization of a legacy Microsoft SQL environment, including migration, normalization, and optimization activities

  • Design and maintain ETL pipelines supporting system modernization, data ingestion, historical data access, and operational reporting
  • Develop and maintain source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, transformation logic, reconciliation rules, and migration runbooks
  • Profile legacy and MVP data to identify inconsistencies, duplicates, missing values, terminology issues, and other data quality risks that affect IOC and FOC delivery
  • Implement validation and quality controls that improve completeness, reliability, and traceability of incident and activity data
  • Partner with the Technical Solutions Architect Lead to design scalable data models optimized for transactional workloads, interfaces, and analytics
  • Support interfaces and data exchange requirements with other approved external systems
  • Prepare data structures and curated outputs that support dashboards, reporting, and future analytical capabilities without degrading operational performance
  • Coordinate with the Government's data governance, cybersecurity, and product stakeholders to ensure data engineering decisions align with policy and mission needs
  • Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, defect analysis, release readiness, and production issue triage for data-related features and integrations

Requirements

Do you have experience in T-SQL?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * U.S. Citizen - required.

  • On-site work 5 days a week in Huntsville, Alabama is required.
  • Security Clearance Public Trust (T4) required.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 years minimum experience
  • 8+ years of data engineering, database engineering, or ETL development experience, with at least 4 years supporting enterprise or federal mission systems
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, stored procedures, schema design, indexing, query tuning, and performance optimization
  • Hands-on experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines using SSIS or comparable enterprise data integration tooling
  • Demonstrable experience with data migration planning, data profiling, cleansing, transformation, reconciliation, and cutover support
  • Experience producing data architecture artifacts including logical and physical data models, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, and data flow diagrams
  • Experience implementing data quality controls, validation rules, and exception handling for operational and analytical data pipelines
  • Proven experience integrating application data with APIs, reporting platforms, and external systems while maintaining data integrity and auditability
  • Strong understanding of secure data handling practices, role-based access controls, and data governance expectations in regulated environments
  • Experience working in Agile SCRUM teams and collaborating directly with architects, developers, testers, and product stakeholders
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to explain technical data issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Education

  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or similar IT related discipline
  • Bachelor's degree in the technical field from an accredited institution

Certifications

  • At least one Microsoft or cloud data certification is highly desired, such as: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate, AWS Data Analytics, or equivalent
  • At least one certification such as: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PMI-ACP, SAFe Agilist, or equivalent Agile certification, is desired

Highly Preferred Qualifications

  • Current or recent prior experience supporting Department of Justice/Law Enforcement-related software systems
  • Prior experience with incident reporting, case management, intelligence, investigative, or criminal justice information systems
  • Experience with federal data governance programs, metadata management, and records traceability requirements
  • Familiarity with federal data governance expectations, NIST 800-53 Rev 5, FISMA ATO processes, and Section 508 implications for data outputs and reporting
  • Experience enabling Power BI, embedded analytics, or dashboard-ready data structures in operational applications
  • Experience working with geospatial or location-based data structures, map layers, and downstream GIS-oriented reporting or exports
  • Experience operating in Agile software services and cross-functional teams within a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 or higher accredited program, * SSIS: 4 years (Required)
  • ETL: 4 years (Required)
  • Data Architecture: 4 years (Required)
