Job description
As a Network Services Designer, you'll play a key role in ensuring SSE Transmission's Operational Technology (OT) networks are designed, assured, built, and operated with confidence. Acting as the functional lead for OT network design, you'll help shape network solutions from early design through to operational handover, ensuring they meet business, operational, and security needs.
This role brings together deep technical expertise and considered technical leadership, supporting both live operations and complex change delivery. You'll work closely with network engineers, solution architects, and project teams to develop network solutions that are practical, secure, resilient, and ready for long-term operation across the Transmission estate.
No two days will look the same. At times, you'll be supporting collaborative design discussions and providing technical assurance, and at others, you'll be developing and maintaining clear, accurate network designs and diagrams that reflect how the network is really built and operated.
You will
- Act as the functional lead for Transmission OT network design, providing guidance and assurance to support well-informed technical decisions
- Own and develop OT network designs from early concept through detailed design and into operational handover, ensuring clear alignment between requirements and delivered solutions
- Create, maintain, and improve accurate as-is network diagrams and design artefacts, ensuring they reflect the live OT network and support safe operation and change
- Work with architects and project teams to translate architectural intent into practical, buildable, and supportable network designs
- Review and assure third-party and vendor designs and proposals, helping to identify risks, assumptions, impacts, or gaps early and addressing them collaboratively
Requirements
Do you have experience in Leadership?, * Experience designing and assuring network solutions within enterprise, industrial, or OT environments, with the ability to operate as a trusted technical specialist
- A strong, specialist-level knowledge across routing, switching, firewalls, and physical network infrastructure in operational environments
- The confidence to share technical judgement, ask questions, and explore alternative approaches while working constructively with others
- An ability to move between design thinking and operational problem-solving, keeping long-term supportability and resilience in mind
- Clear communication skills, with care and attention to detail, where network design choices affect safety, availability, or cybersecurity
