Job description

As a Sr Systems Engineer in Norcross, GA or Omaha, NE , you will join a diverse, passionate team, dedicated to powering the world's payments ecosystem! JOB PURPOSE The Sr Systems Engineer II independently monitors and maintains production systems to ensure reliability and availability. This mid-level position focuses on leading incident response , developing automation solutions, implementing monitoring and observability, and mentoring junior engineers while building expertise in operational practices. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES System Operations & Incident Management

  • Independently monitor and troubleshoot production systems, applications, and infrastructure
  • Lead incident response for moderate complexity issues and coordinate resolution efforts
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures
  • Manage and participate in on-call rotation providing production support
  • Execute operational tasks including deployments, maintenance windows, and configuration changes

Automation & Monitoring

  • Develop automation scripts to reduce manual toil and improve operational efficiency
  • Configure and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability tools
  • Implement logging and metrics collection for system visibility
  • Create and maintain runbooks and operational documentation
  • Contribute to infrastructure as code and configuration management efforts

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Mentor junior operations engineers on tools, processes, and best practices
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on system reliability and operational requirements
  • Participate in post-mortems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Share knowledge through documentation, presentations, and team discussions, * Hybrid work model (2-3 days in-office); multiple office locations available
  • Minimal travel required, occasional team meetings or training
  • On-call rotation participation; occasional extended hours for incident response

Requirements

Do you have experience in Incident management operations support?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related technical field

  • Equivalent experience (4+ years) may substitute for degree

Experience

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in operations, DevOps, or infrastructure roles
  • Proven track record of independently managing production systems
  • Experience with incident management and troubleshooting complex issues
  • Payments, financial services, or regulated industry experience preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency with operating systems (Linux/Unix and Windows)
  • Experience with cloud platforms and infrastructure services
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar)
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools and practices
  • Understanding of networking concepts and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing)
  • Experience with database administration and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Knowledge of ITIL or similar operational frameworks

Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills for incident management and technical collaboration
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently under pressure
  • Collaborative team player with mentoring capabilities, * Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies
