The IT Support Specialist is a key member of The Business Council's IT department, responsible for providing front-line technical support and assistance to all staff. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this position ensures that employees have the tools, access, and technology they need to perform their work effectively and without disruption. The IT Support Specialist plays a hands-on role in day-to-day IT operations, helping to maintain systems, troubleshoot issues, and support the organization's technology infrastructure under the guidance of the Director of IT., Help Desk & End-User Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for all staff technology support requests, troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Log, track, and resolve help desk tickets, escalating complex issues to the Director of IT as appropriate.
- Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, and Excel.
- Assist staff with printer, peripheral, and mobile device setup and troubleshooting.
- Maintain a courteous, patient, and service-oriented approach when assisting staff of varying technical abilities.
Hardware & Equipment Management
- Assist in the procurement, configuration, deployment, and inventory management of computers, peripherals, and other IT equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on desktops, laptops, and other end-user devices.
- Manage the setup and teardown of technology for staff meetings, events, and conference room AV needs.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all IT hardware and equipment.
Systems & Account Administration
- Assist in the creation, modification, and deactivation of user accounts in Microsoft 365 and other organizational systems.
- Support the onboarding and offboarding of staff from a technology perspective, including device setup and access provisioning.
- Assist with administration of the organization's Association Management System (AMS) and other business applications as directed.
- Help maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and IT assets.
Infrastructure Support
- Assist the Director of IT in monitoring and maintaining network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, and related equipment.
- Support data backup processes and help ensure backup systems are functioning as expected.
- Assist with the testing and implementation of software updates, patches, and security fixes.
- Help monitor systems for potential issues and report anomalies to the Director of IT.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Follow and help enforce the organization's IT security policies and procedures.
- Assist in delivering basic cybersecurity awareness to staff, including phishing awareness and safe computing practices.
- Report potential security incidents or vulnerabilities to the Director of IT promptly.
Website & Digital Support
- Provide basic support for the organization's website and digital platforms as directed by the Director of IT.
- Assist with technical aspects of event registration systems and member-facing digital tools.
Communications & Events Technology Support
- Provide technical support to the Communications, Events, and other departments for the organization's email marketing platform, Mailchimp, including list management, campaign setup, troubleshooting, and user assistance.
- Support staff in the planning and execution of webinars and virtual/hybrid meetings hosted on the Zoom platform, including account administration, scheduling, troubleshooting, and on-site or remote technical assistance during events.
- Serve as a technology resource for staff across departments seeking assistance with digital communications and event tools.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Zoom?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft 365 Fundamentals are a plus.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in an IT support or help desk role. Experience in a nonprofit, trade association, membership organization, or office environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and administration; familiarity with Windows desktop operating systems; basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi); experience with hardware setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance; familiarity with help desk ticketing systems; working knowledge of Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms; experience supporting Zoom or similar video conferencing and webinar platforms; familiarity with a content management system such as Drupal preferred.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users; good organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to prioritize and manage multiple support requests simultaneously; eagerness to learn and grow within the IT field; reliable, punctual, and team oriented.
- Exempt, full-time position (in office at least four days a week and one day per week remote). Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required to support events, system maintenance, or urgent issues. Minimal travel may be required., * Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, meeting materials).
