Job description

NATURE OF WORK: This position has primary responsibility for the design, development, documentation and maintenance of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's web sites, web servers and related databases. The Web Developer is also responsible for internet based applications from concept through to implementation including application development. As a member of the Nisqually Tribe's Information Technology (IT) Department, this position collaborates with other members of the IT department and the Tribal organization to provide up to date information and access to information resources with an emphasis on web security while delivering a user friendly experience for the visitors, employees, and general council members when visiting Nisqually Tribal Web sites and portals., * Participate in establishing the organization's web strategy.

  • Develop and communicate web use and security policies, procedures, and best practices to all who use web resources owned by the Nisqually Indian Tribe ensuring security of all websites and applications.
  • Install and configure web servers with associated operating systems.
  • Manage and maintain database servers as applicable.
  • Integrate web sites with back end applications.
  • Identify, recommend, prioritize and implement web features and applications as applicable.
  • Provide oversight of all web development projects, including intranets, extranets, portals, web applications and network applications.
  • Develop, code, install, test, debug, and document development using appropriate editors.
  • Register web servers and sites with domain name services.
  • Update web pages to ensure site accuracy and currency.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing web applications and sites.
  • Perform periodic web site audits.
  • Monitor and report on web site traffic and performance to CIO.
  • Manage and provide guidance of web best practices to organization and members of the IT Department team.
  • Create, manage and maintain backup and recovery strategies for web sites and databases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Knowledge and expertise in Web technologies, protocols, and tools.

  • Knowledge and expertise in internet programming languages, including HTML, DHTML, PHP, XML, ASP, CSS, .Net and Java.

  • Knowledge of application development methodologies.

  • Knowledge of computer graphic and multimedia design.

  • Knowledge and expertise in web security issues and the ability to correct them.

  • Knowledge of structuring, developing, and implementing interactive web sites.

  • Ability to install, upgrade, and maintain Web servers and associated operating systems, including server 2008, Linux, LAMP Server, IIS, SharePoint, SQL MySQL, Drupal.

  • Ability to learn new technologies and assimilate new information quickly.

  • Ability to communicate technical issues to a variety of audiences.

  • Ability to match technical opportunities to Tribal goals.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or direction.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with managers, clients, and team members.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to be on on-call status for evening and weekend needs., * High School diploma or GED.

  • B.S. in Computer Information Systems OR 4 years related work experience OR comparable amount of experience and/or education.

  • Experience with structuring, developing, and implementing interactive Web sites.

  • Experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining Web servers and associated operating systems, including server 2008, Linux, LAMP Server, IIS, SharePoint, SQL, MySQL and Drupal.

  • Strong public service orientation.

  • Must have valid Washington State drivers license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribes insurance policy.
