IBMi (AS400) Support Engineer

Programmers.io is seeking a Senior IBMi (AS400) Support Engineer in Vitoria, Spain, to support a legacy ERP system during its transition to Microsoft Business Central. You'll provide day-to-day maintenance and user support, ensuring system stability., * Provide hands-on support for IBM i (AS400) ERP system.

• Support the parallel run of AS400 during ERP migration., Programmers.io is looking for a Senior IBMi (AS400) Support Engineer to support a business-critical legacy ERP system during an ongoing transition to Microsoft Business Central. The role is primarily focused on day-to-day maintenance, user support, and system stability, working closely with the in-house ERP Manager. The resource must have strong proficiency in Spanish, both written and spoken. Location & Work Model

• Location: Spain (onsite at client premises)

• Work Model:

• 3 days onsite (mandatory)
• Up to 2 days remote (versátil)

• Shift Timings - 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM CEST (including break)

Key Responsibilities

1. Application Support & Maintenance

• Provide hands-on support for IBM i (AS400) ERP system
• Handle day-to-day maintenance activities and minor enhancements
• Investigate and resolve system issues, blocks, and performance-related challenges
• Ensure system stability during the migration phase

2. User Support (Level 1 / Level 2)

• Act as a primary point of contact for business users
• Resolve day-to-day issues such as: Access rights / permissions, Password resets, Functional queries, System errors or transactions failing
• Provide quick turnaround on operational requests

3. Collaboration with ERP Manager

• Work closely with the internal ERP Manager
• Support and offload routine operational workload
• Assist in knowledge continuity and documentation

4. Transition Support

• Support the parallel run of AS400 during ERP migration
• Assist in knowledge transfer and system understanding
• Contribute to a smooth transition without disrupting business operations

The ideal candidate has strong proficiency in Spanish and over 5 years of hands-on IBM i experience. Key responsibilities include application support, user issue resolution, and collaboration with the in-house ERP Manager., * Strong experience in IBM i (AS400) with 5+ years in hands-on roles.

• Experience in ERP support environments focusing on maintenance.

• Proficiency in RPG (preferably RPGLE / ILE) and understanding of system operations., Proficiency in Spanish Strong problem-solving mindset Collaboration skills, Core Technical Skills

• Strong experience in IBM i (AS400)

• Proficiency in:

• RPG (preferably RPGLE / ILE)
• COBOL (nice to have)

• Strong understanding of:

• System operations
• Batch processes
• User management

Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on IBM i / AS400 experience
• Experience in ERP support environments
• Experience with maintenance/support-heavy roles (vs. pure development)

Additional Technical (Nice to Have)

• Exposure to:

• File transfers (FTP / secure FTP)
• Basic integrations (not mandatory)
