AI Java Engineer - Agentic AI, Automation, and Intelligence

Our product suite spans the full benefits value chain, including AEZ Benefits, AEZ Bill & Pay, AEZ Quote, and AEZ Quote-to-Case (QtC). Together, these products help brokers, employers, carriers, and consumers manage quoting, enrollment, billing, payments, servicing, and ongoing case performance.

We are now applying agentic AI to automate complex workflows, connect product experiences, assist human operators, monitor customer cases proactively, and enable intelligent sales outreach.

Role Overview

The AI Java Engineer will design, build, and integrate AI-driven capabilities across the AEZ product suite. This role combines hands-on Java development with agentic AI, workflow automation, and data intelligence.

The engineer will work directly within our existing Java-based backend platform to build product features, integrate APIs, support business workflows, and improve production systems. At the same time, this person will help bring AI-powered automation into the platform in practical, reliable ways.

This is not a narrow prompt-engineering role. We need someone who can write production Java code, understand business workflows, design intelligent systems, work with public and private data, integrate with existing software, and proactively bring ideas to the table., Agentic AI and Workflow Automation

• Design and build AI agents that assist with, automate, and coordinate business workflows across AEZ products.
• Connect and automate Quote, Benefits, Bill & Pay, and Quote-to-Case workflows.
• Build AI-assisted handoffs between systems, users, and internal teams.
• Create agentic workflows that reason over documents, structured data, rules, customer context, and business processes.
• Support human-in-the-loop review where automation requires validation or approval.
• Design AI systems that recommend next actions, identify missing information, and reduce manual operational work.
• Use public company, employer, industry, geographic, economic, or benefits-related data where available.
• Monitor customer case performance and surface risks or opportunities before users manually discover them.
• Generate proactive recommendations for account managers, support teams, brokers, and operations users.

Java Development and System Integration

• Build, maintain, and enhance Java-based backend services across the AEZ platform.
• Implement regular product features and improvements.
• Work with APIs, backend services, data models, business rules, and integration points.
• Connect AI capabilities into existing Java services and product workflows.
• Debug production issues and improve reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Build integrations between AEZ systems, third-party services, internal tools, and frontend product experiences.
• Translate product and business requirements into practical technical solutions., Our platform includes a mix of common and proprietary technologies, including:
• Java-based backend systems.
• JavaScript-based frontend technologies.
• React and React Native.
• API integrations.
• Proprietary AEZ platform components.
• Structured and unstructured data processing.
• LLM-based applications, AI agents, automation workflows, and retrieval systems.
• Insurance, benefits, enrollment, billing, quoting, and case-management workflows.

Do you have experience in Systems integration?, The ideal candidate is self-motivated, hands-on, curious, and comfortable operating in a startup environment. This person should be able to take ownership, drive initiatives forward., * Strong Java development experience; much of our current backend platform uses Java.

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, debugging, testing, and maintainable design.
• Experience building and maintaining production software.
• Ability to work with APIs, backend services, data models, business logic, and integration points.
• Experience building AI-enabled applications, AI agents, automation workflows, or LLM-based systems.
• Practical understanding of modern AI concepts such as agents, RAG, embeddings, vector search, structured outputs, and AI workflow orchestration.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Ability to learn proprietary systems and business workflows quickly.

Preferred / Plus

• JavaScript, React, or React Native experience.
• Experience integrating AI into enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience with document processing, PDF extraction, or complex business automation.
• Experience with vector databases, embeddings, RAG pipelines, workflow engines, or AI orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with cloud environments and API-based integrations.
• Familiarity with startup product development and rapid prototyping.
• Experience with insurance, benefits, billing, quoting, enrollment, or case-management workflows is helpful but not required., * A hands-on Java engineer who has real world experience in agentic AI and automation.
• Comfortable building regular product features and integrating AI into production systems.
• Able to turn broad business goals into technical execution.
