Job description
We are seeking an experienced Domain Architect - Field Technology to serve as a senior architecture leader responsible for defining and governing the technology strategy supporting electric and gas utility field operations. This role will be a key member of the Enterprise Architecture organization, driving architecture standards, governance, and technology roadmaps across Field Technology value streams. The Domain Architect will ensure alignment between business objectives and technology execution while promoting modern architecture principles, reducing risk, optimizing technology investments, and enabling digital transformation initiatives. The successful candidate will have deep experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale architectures supporting utility field operations, including work and asset management, GIS, outage management, mobile workforce solutions, scheduling and dispatch, and enterprise integration platforms. This individual will partner closely with business leaders, product owners, engineering teams, and enterprise architects to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions that support operational excellence., Strategic Architecture Leadership
- Develop technology points of view regarding emerging technologies, market trends, and industry innovations impacting utility field operations.
- Drive a business-outcome-focused architecture approach that aligns technology investments with operational objectives.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, value stream leaders, and business stakeholders to define and execute technology strategy.
- Assess current technology capabilities and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization, and transformation.
- Develop and maintain architecture roadmaps covering applications, integrations, data, infrastructure, and platforms supporting field operations.
- Lead architecture strategy for critical field technology platforms, including:
oEnterprise Asset Management (EAM) oWork Management Systems oGeographic Information Systems (GIS) oOutage Management Systems (OMS) oAdvanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) oMobile Workforce Management oScheduling and Dispatch Platforms
- Analyze business drivers and translate them into business, information, technical, and solution architecture requirements.
- Support enterprise initiatives by ensuring alignment between project delivery and long-term architectural vision.
- Drive continuous development of the architectural runway supporting future business capabilities.
Architecture Governance
- Define and promote architecture principles, standards, frameworks, and governance processes.
- Establish reference architectures, design patterns, integration standards, and data management practices.
- Define authoritative systems of record for assets, work management, crews, and operational data.
- Review solution designs to ensure compliance with enterprise architecture standards.
- Identify and manage cross-functional dependencies, integration complexity, and technology risks.
- Provide architecture oversight across multiple initiatives and technology portfolios.
Solution Architecture Serve as the architecture authority for utility field operations capabilities, including:
- Work and Asset Management
- Field Mobility
- Outage and Emergency Response
- Vegetation Management
- Inspection and Compliance Programs
- Construction and Maintenance Operations
- Workforce Scheduling and Dispatch
Additional responsibilities include:
- Evaluating emerging technologies such as:
o Artificial Intelligence (AI/ML) o Generative AI o Agentic AI o Internet of Things (IoT) o Cloud Computing o DevOps o Event-Driven Architectures o Microservices o Automation and RPA
- Developing architecture standards and implementation patterns.
- Driving adoption of enterprise platforms, tools, and architectural best practices.
- Collaborating with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure secure and compliant solutions.
- Supporting architecture review processes and technology governance activities.
Risk, Security & Compliance
- Ensure technology solutions align with cybersecurity, privacy, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- Design resilient architectures that support high availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
- Partner with security teams to implement secure-by-design architecture principles.
- Ensure appropriate governance for data protection, system access, and operational resilience.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior technology and business leadership.
- Partner with operations leaders to translate business objectives into scalable technology solutions.
- Collaborate with project managers, solution architects, product teams, and engineering organizations.
- Present architecture strategies, roadmaps, and recommendations to executive stakeholders.
- Influence technology investment decisions and modernization initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Master's Degree preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, or Technology Architecture experience.
- Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale architecture solutions.
- Strong knowledge of utility field operations and supporting technologies.
- Experience developing architecture strategies, roadmaps, governance frameworks, and standards.
- Experience with cloud and hybrid architecture environments.
