Job description
A client of ours in Woodburn is seeking a skilled and motivated Design Engineer to join their engineering team within the pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) industry. This role is responsible for the structural design, analysis, and development of custom PEMB systems from concept through fabrication-ready drawings. The ideal candidate will work closely with sales, detailing, and production teams to deliver accurate, code-compliant, and cost-effective building solutions that meet customer requirements and project specifications. This position offers a strong pathway toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and long-term career growth within a well-established organization., * Design structural framing systems for custom PEMB projects using industry-standard engineering software and calculation methods.
- Perform structural analysis for main frames, roof and wall systems, mezzanines, crane supports, and related building components.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, including IBC, AISC, ASCE, and MBMA, as well as project-specific requirements.
- Optimize structural designs for material efficiency, safety, and cost effectiveness.
- Evaluate project loading conditions, including wind, snow, seismic, collateral, and live loads.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, stamped drawings, and design packages for permit and fabrication release.
- Coordinate with detailing teams to ensure design intent is accurately reflected in shop drawings and erection documents.
- Review shop drawings, connection details, and fabrication documents for accuracy and code compliance.
- Maintain organized engineering documentation in accordance with company quality standards.
- Collaborate with sales and estimating teams to provide preliminary design input and value engineering recommendations.
- Communicate directly with customers, contractors, and builders to clarify design requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Support production and detailing teams to ensure efficient fabrication schedules and drawing release timelines.
- Participate in design and engineering meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal standards and templates.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Engineer in Training certification?, Do you have experience in Tekla?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree in engineering?, * Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
- Minimum 3+ years of structural engineering experience within the PEMB industry.
- Proficiency with PEMB structural design software such as MBS, RISA, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of IBC, AISC, ASCE, MBMA, and applicable building codes and load standards.
- Ability to read, interpret, and produce structural drawings and engineering calculations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- 5+ years of PEMB design engineering experience preferred.
- Active PE license or EIT certification with intent to obtain PE licensure within 6 months preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Tekla, or similar structural detailing platforms preferred.
- Direct experience working with PEMB systems in a manufacturing or engineering environment is preferred., * PEMB design software : 3 years (Required)
