If you seek a rewarding, high profile and challenging position supporting projects for the US Navy, Serco has a wonderful opportunity for you!, As the Senior Waterfront Engineer, based in Pascagoula, MS, you will serve as a linchpin in monitoring technical concerns across the ship class, highlighting issues that could impact cost, schedule and quality of the ships. You will work closely with SSGC Project Engineer, PMR/DPMR, and shipyard construction manager to address concerns and identify innovative solutions. Our Navy customer relies heavily on each individual's skillset to provide support to the program office team as well as Supship and the shipbuilder's team, all sharing a common goal to successfully build, test and deliver DDGs to the next generation of sailors.
Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for providing engineering and production support on the DDG 51 (Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer) program. As a Senior Waterfront Engineer, you will be a critical part of a skilled group of engineers, analysts and field technicians with a mission to oversee the production and delivery of the Navy's DDG's while working to identify and resolve technical issues to improve the quality and reliability of each ship delivered to the Fleet.
In this role, you will:
- Assist the PMR and SUPSHIP Engineering Branch in the identification and resolution of waterfront technical issues that arise during ship construction and trials.
- Perform ship checks and provide digital photographs, as requested, to clearly show as-built condition/discrepancies.
- Perform technical reviews, recommend and coordinate responses, and maintain databases for LIs, and requests for waivers/deviations, CDRLs, Specification Change Notices (SCNs), and other technical documentation, as required.
- Provide engineering and administrative assistance for system reviews and technical meetings.
- Review drawings, RNs, and Ship specifications and verify equipment installations and drawings are in accordance with contract requirements.
- Develop ECPs to support all change boards, as requested, and perform risk analysis prior to submission for consideration to support.
- Participate in DDG 51 Class CCBs and provide technical evaluations and recommendations on ECPs.
- Assist with identification of documentation requiring revisions or updates as a result of new or modified designs.
- Support task lead in monitoring team performance to meet contract requirements.
- Identify areas where adjustments in resources may be needed.
- Develop and submit monthly reports of all completed activities to the task lead.
- Provide support to the local Supship team as needed and also respond to emergent requests for information or data from PMS 400D4.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- US Citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- 7 years of relevant experience working in a shipyard engineering / technical role.
- Experience in system and field engineering in a shipbuilding environment.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and technical report writing skills.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- Experience in establishing and monitoring engineering metrics.
- Experience in interpreting technical specifications, drawings, and test reports.
- Experience with SUPSHIP operations.
- 5 years of US Navy experience.
