AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). We are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to help spearhead this initiative as part of the AWS Managed Operations team. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025 and work closely with global AWS teams.
  • Build and lead operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
  • Identify anomalies, craft actionable bug reports, and drive continuous improvement of the software systems.
  • Develop and test scripts to automate and streamline workflows.
  • Act as an educator, sharing insights on the European Sovereign Cloud with service teams and fostering mutual understanding.
  • Participate in an on-call rota to support 24x7 high-availability distributed software applications.

Requirements

ALTEN Delivery Centre Spain is seeking experienced systems engineers to help launch the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025. Ideal candidates will have expertise in automation, operations, and systems engineering.

Your role will involve building teams for high-availability AWS services and collaborating with technology leaders while ensuring continuous improvement. Candidates must be EU nationals and fluent in English. The company provides relocation support within the EU., * Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, including hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.

  • Solid understanding of Linux and networking, with the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate performance issues.
  • Experience operating 24x7 high-availability distributed applications., * Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, including hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
  • Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.
  • Solid understanding of Linux and networking, with the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate performance, reliability, or availability problems.
  • Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Elastic.
  • Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
  • Experience operating 24x7 high-availability distributed applications and performance tuning software applications to optimize fleet utilization.
  • Experience actively mentoring junior engineers and working cross-organizationally to lead strategic team efforts.

Location & Eligibility

  • Candidates must be nationals of an EU member state and reside within the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
