Job description

OpSec Consulting is looking for a reliable, organized, and technically inclined individual to join our Managed IT Services team as a part-time IT Bench & Inventory Technician.

This is an entry-level, hands-on position involving the preparation of desktops, laptops, and other technology equipment for deployment to our customers. The position will also be responsible for receiving incoming packages, checking deliveries, and making sure equipment and materials are properly recorded and placed in the correct storage, staging, or technician area.

Extensive professional IT experience is not required. Some exposure to computer hardware, Windows computers, inventory handling, technical coursework, computer repair, or building your own computers is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.

This could be a good opportunity for a college or technical-school student, someone beginning an IT career, or a computer enthusiast looking to gain professional hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receive packages and deliveries arriving at the office
  • Confirm that received items match packing slips, purchase information, or expected deliveries
  • Inspect packages for visible damage or missing items
  • Notify the appropriate employee when important or unexpected equipment arrives
  • Accurately label, organize, and place received equipment in the correct storage, staging, project, or technician area
  • Keep the receiving and equipment-storage areas organized
  • Record serial numbers, asset information, quantities, and delivery details when required
  • Help maintain an accurate inventory of computers, monitors, accessories, and other technology equipment
  • Unbox, inspect, and prepare new desktops, laptops, monitors, and related equipment
  • Configure Windows computers according to company checklists and customer requirements
  • Install operating-system updates, drivers, applications, and security software
  • Enroll computers in company and customer management systems
  • Apply asset tags and accurately document equipment information
  • Perform basic hardware upgrades, including replacing memory, drives, and other components
  • Troubleshoot basic computer hardware and software issues
  • Clean, package, and stage completed equipment for deployment or shipping
  • Follow documented security, quality-control, inventory, and deployment procedures
  • Coordinate with senior technicians when problems, discrepancies, or unusual issues are identified
  • Assist with other basic technical and equipment-management projects as needed

Requirements

Do you have experience in Moving?, * Basic familiarity with Windows computers and computer hardware

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to carefully receive, sort, label, and track equipment
  • Ability to follow written instructions and technical checklists
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to stay organized while working on multiple computers and deliveries
  • Ability to work independently after receiving training
  • Ability to lift and move computers, monitors, packages, and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds
  • Ability to work on-site in our Lakewood office

Professional IT experience is not required. Relevant experience can include personal computer projects, school coursework, warehouse or inventory work, shipping and receiving, internships, electronics work, computer repair, or helping friends and family with technology.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Experience building, upgrading, or repairing computers
  • Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, stockroom, or inventory experience
  • CompTIA A+ certification or related coursework
  • Previous computer-repair, help-desk, electronics, or technical-support experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, computer imaging, device-management tools, or ticketing systems
  • Experience working from technical checklists or documented procedures

Schedule

This is an on-site, part-time position generally scheduled during normal weekday business hours. We anticipate approximately 15-25 hours per week. Additional hours may be offered during larger projects, deployments, equipment deliveries, or periods of increased workload.

A consistent weekly schedule is preferred, although there may be some flexibility based on the candidate's availability and the needs of the department.
