Job description
- Translate use cases into functional applications
- Design, build, test deploy, and maintain efficient, reusable, reliable and scalable backend services and API's
- Participate in design, code, test and architecture/design discussions and peer reviews, and contribute to technical decision-making and tradeoff discussions
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in existing applications
- Consistently improve maintainability and stability, and observability of the codebase
- Ensure high performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications
- Identify performance bottlenecks and develop solutions
- Identify and implement key application metrics, logging, and monitoring solutions (e.g., CloudWatch)
- Research and utilize new technologies where they can be evaluated and introduced into production systems when appropriate
- Contribute to task estimations and schedules
- Collaborate with product & business operations teams to translate business requirements and build highly robust and scalable products
- Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, plus 4-7 years of professional software engineering experience in production environments
- Strong foundation in Computer Science fundamentals including object-oriented design, algorithm design, data structures, problem solving, and complexity analysis
- Proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Programming
- Experience with advanced Java features such as Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP)
- Ability to write clean, readable, secure code and adhere to team's coding guidelines
- Experience developing and maintaining RESTful and event-driven microservices
- Hands-on experience designing and operating scalable services within distributed systems
- Applied experience with various design & architectural patterns and implementing them
- Experience with SQL and NOSQL databases
- Experience with versioning tools such as Git
- Experience with AWS services including compute (EC2/Lambda), storage (S3), and messaging
- Experience supporting applications in production, including debugging, monitoring, and incident resolution
- Experience working with systems that handle real-world scale, concurrency, or high-availability requirements
- Ability to work well independently, as well as collaboratively, to take initiative, and to maintain productivity under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent inter-personal, and communication skills, ability to engage with users and stakeholders across disciplines, verbally and in writing
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Professional experience using at least one additional backend language (e.g., Node.js or Python) in a production setting
- Demonstrated curiosity and continuous learning mindset, with a track record of delivering maintainable production systems
- Ability to propose pragmatic, scalable solutions aligned with business and technical constraints
Strong Pluses
- Expertise in Node.js, Experience with serverless application development and AWS Lambda or Fargate, Experience with GraphQL, Containerization and Kubernetes, & Experience supporting and troubleshooting high availability, real time, production AWS application

- You have independently delivered backend services to production and supported them post-launch
- You are comfortable debugging complex distributed systems and identifying root causes across services
- You can own features end-to-end, from design through deployment and monitoring
