Job description

The mission of Public Works is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Alameda County by providing a safe, well-maintained, and lasting public works infrastructure through accessible, responsive and effective services. Public services provided by the Alameda County Public Works Agency include flood control planning and design, storm water pollution control, transportation planning and design, roadway and flood control maintenance and inspection, and construction and building inspections. The goals of the Agency are to keep roads safe and well maintained, provide the highest level of flood protection, provide service levels that optimize infrastructure life cycles, minimize deferred maintenance, ensure that development and construction adhere to applicable State and County rules, optimize disaster preparedness, response and recover, ensure that the Agency's operations and services minimize negative impacts on the environment, and sustain and advance County and Agency programs through a vital business and administrative support system., Under direction, the Public Works Fleet and Infrastructure Systems Manager is responsible for the overall administration and management of the California Driver's License Pull Program and the Bi-Annual Inspection Terminal Program, Infrastructure Management System and manages the Public Works Agency's heavy equipment repair and replacement operations; and performs other related work as required. ThePublic Works Fleet and Infrastructure Systems Manager is a second-line supervisor who is responsible for the oversight of the Agency's fleet programs and the heavy equipment repair shop. The incumbent is responsible for assuring the timely repair and maintenance of the Agency's heavy equipment, determining vehicle needs, drafting vehicle specifications, and coordinating any necessary modifications to vehicles. This class is distinguished from the class of Public Works Fleet Supervisor in that the latter class is a first-line supervisor responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Heavy Equipment Repair Shop. The Public Works Fleet and Infrastructure Systems Manager have oversight on the Agency Infrastructure Systems and provides direction to those who assist in the management of information related to it.   • Operate complex maintenance infrastructure systems to enter, retrieve, and analyze data and utilize spreadsheet and other applications. Working Conditions : Duties require the incumbent to work in the standard office environment. Daily walking on flat surfaces such as the equipment repair shop, equipment yard, or parts room and climbing stairs is required in the performance of duties. While being around heavy equipment, the incumbent will be exposed to various noise levels and may at times be exposed to diesel or other fumes. Incumbent has 24/7 responsibility to respond to emergencies; participate as on-call supervisor after hours and weekend/holidays; attend meetings after hours. EXAMINATION COMPONENTS THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS: A review of applicants' application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates' final examination score. The oral examination may be administered virtually and may contain situational exercises. Requirements

TO QUALIFY FOR THE COMPETITIVE ASSESSMENT PROCESS, YOU MUST MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BY FULFILLING ONE OF THE PATTERNS LISTED BELOW (I-II) AND CLASS C DRIVERS LICENSE. EITHER I Experience: The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Public Works Fleet Supervisor or an equivalent or higher-level class specializing in the repair and utilization of vehicles, with at least one year of that experience managing infrastructure systems related to fleet in the Alameda County classified service. OR II Experience: The equivalent of four years of full-time journey-level experience in scheduling and assigning the maintenance of vehicular equipment for a public agency, construction firm, or similar setting; two years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity; and one year of the required experience must have been managing infrastructure systems related to fleet. AND License (required for all above patterns): Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License.

About the company

Alameda County, California, was established in 1853. The County was created from the territory of two counties created in 1850: Contra Costa and Santa Clara. It was given the local name for the region, Alameda, which translated loosely as "a grove of poplars."
