Job description

KO2's client is looking for a Software & Embedded Systems Manager to lead a multidisciplinary R&D team working across embedded software, wireless systems and next-generation connected products.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining people management, technical direction and delivery responsibility across a growing engineering function. The successful candidate will oversee software development activities spanning embedded Linux, RTOS-based systems, MCU development and wireless technologies, ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time and to a high level of quality.

You will play a key role in driving technical standards, mentoring engineers and shaping future product development, while working closely with senior leadership on planning, resource allocation and team growth.

The Role

  • Lead and manage a team of embedded software and electronics engineers
  • Provide technical leadership across embedded Linux, RTOS and wireless product development
  • Oversee concept, design and development activities from architecture through to release
  • Ensure software quality, stability and robust bug resolution processes
  • Support resource planning, recruitment, training, performance management and team development
  • Work closely with hardware teams, understanding schematics and system-level design considerations
  • Contribute to the development of both legacy and next-generation embedded platforms
  • Drive engineering best practice across software development and product delivery

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and people management experience within an engineering environment
  • Commercial experience with embedded Linux and/or RTOS development
  • Experience with MCU-based embedded systems and low-level programming
  • Good understanding of electronics and the ability to interpret hardware schematics
  • Experience working on connected or wireless embedded products
  • Strong understanding of embedded software development lifecycles and product quality processes

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Sub-1GHz RF systems or wireless communication technologies
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel development
  • Understanding of low-power embedded product design
  • Experience with modern C++ (C++11 or later)
  • Familiarity with regulated or standards-driven product environments
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary R&D teams within an embedded systems environment

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys combining hands-on technical involvement with team leadership in a fast-paced product development environment.
