Job description
ComTec is looking for an SAP S/4HANA Finance Business Advisor / Utility Cost Flow & Allocations Expert to directly support the Finance and Regulatory Lead on an active S/4HANA program for a major regulated utility client in New Jersey. You will be an expert-level technical and regulatory reviewer representing the business. You will analyze, provide rigorous feedback on, and support approval of system configurations, data migration mapping, and WRICEFS functional specifications.
Your primary objective is to support the business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) by guiding critical design decisions related implementing cost flows that satisfy GAAP, FERC, and Management accounting, reporting, and analytics, explicitly compile complex utility cost flow logic, overhead capitalization rules, service company cross-billing, and regulatory allocation standards required by 18 CFR Part 101, 18 CFR Part 201 and the NJBPU.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate Specialized Regulatory Forecasting: Audit and sign off on predictive planning logic for complex utility-specific financial models, including Rate Case scenario modeling, volume/revenue forecasting, and long-term Regulatory Deferral/Rider tracking.
- Verify Master Data Integration: Review the alignment and mapping of S/4HANA Universal Journal (ACDOCA) structures, profit centers, cost centers, and the FERC Chart of Accounts into SAC Planning models.
Reporting, Analytics & Historical Data Validation
- Ensure Historical Data Continuity: Review and validate how historical financial data migrated through the Bluefield Selective Data Transition is layered into SAC models. Guarantee that multi-year operational trend analyses can be executed without data gaps or structural misalignment.
- Support Approval of Dashboard & Story Designs: Review and provide structural feedback on SAC Stories, Analytics Designer applications, and management dashboards to ensure seamless variance analysis (Budget vs. Actual vs. Forecast) and executive-level clarity.
- Confirm Regulatory Output Accuracy: Validate that reporting schemas natively support data extraction requirements for the NJBPU Annual Report and federal FERC filings.
Requirements
- Advanced Utility Planning Concepts: Deep operational understanding of regulated utility corporate finance, including capital expenditure recovery, cost-of-service ratemaking, and utility-specific budget cycles.
- Regulatory Reporting Awareness: Strong familiarity with formatting and financial granularity required for 18 CFR Part 101 and 18 CFR Part 201 compliance and New Jersey state regulatory filings.
- Experienced in developing an annual budgeting/planning tool to meet the various operating company's annual planning needs from a GAAP, FERC and Management accounting, reporting and analytic needs
Preferred Background & Professional Experience
- Minimum 10+ years in utility financial environments, with at least 3+ years specifically focused on SAP Analytics Cloud (Planning and Reporting) architecture, implementation, or advisory phases.
