Job description

Respond to system and service outages.

Install and wire routers, switches, and firewalls, coordinating with multiple groups for configuration and troubleshooting.

Terminate copper and fiber cabling as needed to support network turn-ups and upgrades.

Physically connect to live DC power plant systems.

Effectively identify and utilize the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments.

Work on various other telecommunications systems and tasks as required by leadership.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong safety mindset who can identify the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to the problems encountered in the field, while working independently and coordinating with multiple groups. Working knowledge of fiber circuits, MPLS, and other LAN/WAN data circuits.

Skilled in the termination and troubleshooting of various cabling types, including fiber.

Working knowledge of fiber terminations, data circuits, and 48V and 135Vdc power plants.

Experience with LAN and wireless testing, fiber optic test equipment, and various cabling types.

Familiarity with cable identification, terminating, and testing cables.

Minimum of two years of experience working in a Telco central office environment.

Electrical/electronic background.

Effective computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products to include Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SAP, and Outlook.

Prioritize safety, environmental consciousness, and attention to detail.

Self-starter with a heightened focus on safe work habits and behaviors.

Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.

Ability to keep work sites clean and organized.

Physical ability to lift 45 pounds and distinguish colors.

Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle able to navigate various terrains and transport moderate amounts of electronic equipment.

Must have basic hand tools and safety shoes. We will provide specialty tools, test sets, laptop, and PPE.

Must be willing to work overtime, which could impact holidays and weekends.

Education Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

A college degree or military experience with 3 years of related work experience, or 5+ years of related experience, may be accepted.

Benefits & conditions

Exposure to cold, heat, loud noise, and energized wires up to 25%.

Outdoor work up to 25%.

Office work up to 25%.

Travel 51-75%.

May require some lengthy local travel with additional hours, holiday, and/or weekend work for project completion or to meet deadlines.

Brooksource is looking for an experienced Telecommunications Technician to join one of our largest Fortune 500 energy and utility clients. In this role, you will apply your knowledge across all areas of telecommunications to perform maintenance on telecommunications equipment, respond to system and service outages, and support network turn-ups and upgrades across the client's service territory. This is a hands-on, field-based opportunity for a seasoned technician who is comfortable working with live DC power plant systems, copper and fiber terminations, and a range of network equipment.
