Job description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a System Operator II for our Hawthorne, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Mobility Operations Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Provide human monitoring and operation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices and other traffic control devices, and take appropriate actions based upon guidance from current and future SOPs.
  • Traffic Incident Management
  • Coordination of responses for roadway concerns
  • Dispatching of maintenance crews for snow/ice events
  • Database entry for all activities related to incidents, special events, roadway concerns, and call logs.
  • Assist in traffic data collection for system performance of troubleshooting using manual and automateddata collection and surveillance features of the ATMS/ITS and other TMC systems.
  • Assist NYSDOT with identifying, troubleshooting, and documenting device failures, establish repair priorities, and issue work orders for repairs of failed devices.
  • Receive and respond to notice of roadwork, highway incidents, special event information, incidents and/or situations affecting the Department, requests for assistance (NYSDOT and other), or reports regarding the malfunction or concern for any State-owned equipment, infrastructure or asset.
  • Answer phone inquiries and coordinate the Department's response with operational partners and provide them with information on roadway conditions.
  • Respond to inquiries about TMC/ITS operations as directed by the State.
  • Inquiry responses may involve email transmittal's, telephone conversations, providing supporting data for evaluation and use by the State, preparation of reports, accommodation of visitors, providing tours at the center, and meetings at locations away from the TMCs.
  • Perform backups of ITS software, archive data records, and generate reports from archived data.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • 0-2 years of experience with a TMC type facility and/or traffic management
  • Oral and written communication
  • Computer/Software - including MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases
  • Public, internal and external relations (works well with internal, external and partner groups and individuals)
  • Analytical and organizational skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Software including: MS Office applications and spreadsheets
  • Capable of working well with co-workers and NYSDOT staff
  • Must have the ability to use digital roadway maps and have a working knowledge of roadway elements
  • Able to maintain significant schedule flexibility to ensure consistency of HVTMC operations.

All candidates must successfully pass a NYSP Criminal History Background Check., The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

Expected Salary: $37,800 - $68,100
