Job description
We are seeking a high-caliber, deeply technical Principal Benchling Consultant to lead the architecture, configuration, and advanced troubleshooting of our Benchling platform. This is not a high-level advisory role; we need an expert with a granular, "under-the-hood" understanding of Benchling who can confidently resolve complex technical bottlenecks and architect scalable deployment strategies.
The ideal candidate will possess an elite level of expertise in bench-level instrument deployments, complex data schemas, and end-to-end integration workflows. You will serve as both the master troubleshooter for technical roadblocks and the strategic guide determining the best architectural approaches for our scientific and IT teams., * Architect & Guide Implementation Approach: Provide definitive strategic guidance on Benchling deployment architecture across multiple modules (ELN, Registry, LIMS, Workflows, Insights). Define best practices for data modelling and scalability.
- Deep-Level Configuration & Schema Design: Design, optimize, and troubleshoot complex Registry Schemas, entity relationships, and naming strategies to ensure data integrity and seamless lineage tracking.
- Advanced Instrument & Workflow Integration: Own the technical troubleshooting and deployment of Benchling Connect and custom integration workflows. Resolve deep-level challenges encountered during bench-level instrument integration (e.g., balance, liquid handler, plate reader data ingestion) including third-party middleware for indirect integration of certain instrument types.
- Root-Cause Troubleshooting: Act as the ultimate escalation point for complex technical glitches, API bottlenecks, and workflow configuration errors that standard support paths cannot resolve.
- Requirements Translation: Deeply analyze scientific and laboratory workflows to translate nuanced R&D processes into highly efficient, bulletproof platform configurations.
- Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: Bridge the gap between R&D, QA/Validation, and IT, ensuring configurations meet strict compliance standards while maintaining high scientific usability.
Requirements
- Deep Benchling Technical Mastery: Proven track record of configuring Benchling Registry, Result Schemas, Run Schemas, and Workflow pipelines at a highly advanced level.
- Integration & Troubleshooting Expertise: Hands-on experience troubleshooting physical instrument data pipelines, file watchers, or middleware parsing errors to get data cleanly into Benchling.
- Data Modeling Acumen: Expert-level understanding of relational data structures, metadata management, and how schema design impacts downstream analytics and Benchling Insights.
- Years of Experience: 6+ years of experience in LIMS, ELN, or scientific platform implementations, with at least 2-3+ years of deep, hands-on Benchling deployment experience.
- Consultative & Leadership DNA: Demonstrated ability to confidently advise senior stakeholders on the correct approach, challenge sub-optimal requirements, and mentor junior configuration analysts.
- Domain Expertise: Strong background in biotech/pharma R&D processes (e.g., Biologics, Cell & Gene Therapy, Small Molecule, or Analytical Development).
