Job description

The CHCCS District Webmaster provides centralized governance of all district and school-based websites. Responsibilities include content management, ADA compliance, information architecture, user experience optimization, security oversight, analytics tracking, and ensuring timely and accurate updates across all pages. This role strengthens transparency, improves public access to information and ensures consistent messaging across the district.

This position builds and maintains district and school-based websites that are user-friendly, professional in appearance, up-to-date, accessible, and that they effectively serve the communication, marketing and operational needs of staff, students, families and the general public.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, written and verbal communication skills, customer service, digital design and a strong commitment to supporting the district's educational mission.

Essential Duties

  1. Website Management and Operations
  • Design and Development:
  • Using the currently available Content Management System (Finalsite), design and implement a user-friendly, visually appealing, and intuitive website structure for the main district site and all school-based sites. o Manage and configure the CMS, including user accounts, roles, permissions and security settings.

  • Maintenance and Integrity: o Ensure website uptime, performance, security, and integration with other district systems(e.g., student information systems, calendars, emergency notification tools). o Perform regular site backups, updates, and maintenance checks. o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to websites and their associated services.

  • Compliance and Accessibility: o Ensure all website content and functionality adhere to WCAG 2.1 AA standards (or current required standard) for accessibility, including proper use of alt text, ARIA roles, keyboard navigation, and color contrast. o Stay current on state and federal legal requirements regarding public-facing websites and data privacy (e.g., FERPA, COPPA).

  1. Content and Communication
  • Content Governance:
  • Establish and enforce district-wide content policies, brand/style guides, and approval workflows. o Work with district and school staff to train them on content creation, editing, and timely publishing within the CMS. o Coordinate the translation of key website content as needed to meet the needs of the diverse school community.

  • Information Architecture:

  • Routinely review and reorganize website menus and pages to ensure critical information (e.g., calendars, Board policies, school closures, enrollment details) is easy to locate.
  • Analytics and Reporting:
  • Monitor website usage using website analytics tools to track traffic, popular content, user behavior, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide regular reports to the district leadership on website performance and engagement.
  1. Training and Support
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and documentation (written and video) for school staff (teachers, principals, administrative assistants) on how to effectively use and manage their school-specific pages within the district website content management system.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource and contact for all website-related questions and support requests acrossthe district.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associates or Bachelor's degree, or certification in web development and administration, digital media design, graphic design, or a communications related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience preferred in managing, developing, and maintaining large- scale websites, preferably for an educational institution or public-sector organization.
  • Preferred experience in a PreK-12 school district environment
  • Expert proficiency with a major Content Management System (e.g., Finalsite, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Apptegy, etc).
  • Solid understanding of HTML,CSS, JavaScript, and web graphic design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Strong organizational, project management and time-management skills.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., AdobeCreative Suite).
  • Experience with developing and implementing content strategies that align with organizational goals and best practices for presentation of information on the web.
  • Ability to manage several projects/requests simultaneously, as part of a supportive, collaborative and collegial workplace.
  • Support the Communications unit in team-related projects and activities
  • Other duties as assigned
