Job description

We're looking for a senior, product-minded full-stack Software Engineer to lead development of a digital experience that facilitates the delivery of subsidized, high quality home upgrades at scale. This requires the management of a workflow, collection of program data, and interfaces for the household, contractor, customer support rep, and program manager. The first launch of the platform will be in service of ~500 heat pump, heat pump water heater, and battery installations in a major metro area by the end of 2026. This project is greenlit by a large utility and will be paid for by a hyperscaler.

This fixed term role is to be one of two primary engineers on the project, owning the build from concept to production to post-launch iteration. You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy, reporting to the VP of Product & Strategic Growth (also the PM) and partnering closely with design while translating real customer needs into a simple, scalable experience. This 6-month, fixed term position will be a strong fit for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves quickly, and enjoys building from the ground up in a small, focused team.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end development of a customer- and contractor-facing web application (front + backend)
  • Translate fuzzy or ambiguous requirements into clear, technical solutions and product experiences
  • Collaborate with product and design to shape UX, flows, and feature prioritization
  • Build scalable APIs and services to support core application functionality
  • Implement clean, modular, and accessible UI components
  • Establish processes for testing, deployment, and iteration
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development, prototyping, and problem-solving
  • Proactively communicate progress in a clear and concise manner

Requirements

The person who will thrive in this role is looking for high ownership and autonomy. They will be hungry for direct user interaction and feedback to scrappily prototype and build features that drive value and help us build into the vision. This isn't a "ticket-taking" role. You'll have the opportunity to do meaningful work that supports electrification and energy transition efforts and shape a 0*1 product that has real impact on households, communities, and the climate., * 6-8+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer

  • Experience building and operating production web applications end-to-end
  • Comfort owning scope, making decisions, and working independently with minimal oversight
  • Product mindset - you think beyond code and care about user experience and outcomes
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React) and core web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience writing and operating production web services using Python/Django, Node/Express, Ruby/Rails, Java/Spring, or equivalent backend frameworks.
  • Strong experience with relational databases and data modeling (SQL or equivalent), as well as building application domain models from scratch
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools or integrating AI into products
  • Experience working on small teams or as a solo/lead engineer on a project
  • Strong collaboration skills in a remote environment, * Content knowledge or experience in energy, building electrification, residential real estate, construction, home improvement or other domains with connection to residential buildings.
  • Experience building customer-facing portals, marketplaces, or workflow tools
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and/or infrastructure as code (Terraform)
