Job description
This role is part of the Controls and Automation Engineering team at a leading global energy technology company based in Houston near Atascasita. On a day-to-day basis, the candidate will configure, validate, and support industrial control systems using both proprietary and standard automation tools, with a strong focus on system configuration and commissioning readiness.
The candidate will support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and field commissioning activities, troubleshoot control system configurations, and ensure proper integration across automation platforms. They will collaborate closely with global engineering teams to ensure alignment with control system standards and project requirements.
Additionally, the candidate will document system configurations, validation results, and commissioning activities, and may travel up to 25% of the time, including international assignments to locations such as Singapore and Guyana.

Requirements
Must-Have Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, control systems, or project engineering with hands-on involvement in system configuration and field commissioning. Flexibility here.
- Strong experience with control system configuration tools such as PLC, DCS
- Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git)
- Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA/DA, Profinet, Modbus, CANbus
- Self-motivated and able to work independently - manager is based in Brazil; team is Houston-based with minimal day-to-day oversight
- Must be authorized to work in the United States - no visa sponsorship available
- Must be able to commute to the Lockwood Road / Atascasita-area Houston office 4 days/week (Mon-Thu)
- Open to travel up to 25%, including potential international assignments (Singapore, Guyana)
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Basic programming knowledge (Python, MATLAB, or similar) as a supporting skill
- Experience with virtualization environments (e.g., VMware)
- Familiarity with Linux environments
- Background as a Control/Automation Engineer with strong configuration and commissioning experience
