Job description
The Senior Data Analyst partners with business, operational, and client-facing leaders to translate complex data into actionable insights that improve claim outcomes, operational performance, and client profitability. This role operates independently and provides consultative insights that influence decision-making across Claims, Managed Care, Finance, and Account Management.
This position goes beyond reporting to drive measurable impact by connecting claim performance, operational drivers, and financial outcomes (e.g., return on revenue, cost-to-service, and margin)., Business & Operational Performance
- Partner with Claims, Managed Care, Finance, and Account Management to define key performance questions, metrics, and success criteria
- Analyze claims, loss, and managed care data to identify trends, cost drivers, and performance gaps
- Evaluate claim lifecycle performance, including duration, closure rates, severity, and operational effectiveness
- Identify root causes of performance variation and translate findings into specific, actionable operational improvements
- Work closely with business leaders to ensure insights drive measurable outcomes
Financial & Client Performance Analytics
- Develop analytics that link operational performance to financial outcomes (e.g., margin, cost-to-service, return on revenue)
- Support client-level profitability analysis, renewal strategy, and pricing discussions
- Partner with account management and leadership to provide insights that support client retention and growth strategies
- Contribute to consistent frameworks for evaluating client economics and service performance
Client & Executive Reporting
- Support client stewardship meetings, executive reporting, and renewal discussions with clear, data-driven insights
- Build and maintain client-facing reporting that communicates performance, trends, and opportunities
- Develop concise, defensible narratives for both internal leadership and external stakeholders
Dashboarding & Data Products
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable dashboards and reporting solutions (primarily in Power BI), including:
- Claims and operational performance dashboards
- Executive scorecards and KPIs
- Client-facing reporting and insights
- Build curated datasets, data marts, and semantic models to support self-service analytics
- Ensure dashboards are intuitive, actionable, and aligned to business decision-making
Data Management & Technical Execution
- Write efficient, scalable SQL to extract, transform, and analyze large, complex datasets
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance through validation, reconciliation, and monitoring processes
- Partner with IT and data engineering to enhance data structure, accessibility, and performance
Automation & Process Improvement
- Develop and automate workflows using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint)
- Identify opportunities to embed analytics into operational workflows and decision processes
Communication & Influence
- Translate complex data into clear, compelling insights for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Operate as a trusted advisor, providing consultative insights to business leaders and clients
- Drive adoption of analytics by aligning outputs to real-world business decisions and actions
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data analytics with demonstrated ownership of business-critical initiatives
- Experience in Workers' Compensation, insurance, or TPA environments strongly preferred
- Experience supporting client-facing analytics in a TPA, insurance, or broker environment
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation and liability claims metrics (e.g., duration, severity, closure rates, lag indicators)
- Experience working with claims systems (e.g., Origami, Guidewire, Riskonnect, or similar platforms)
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and relational databases
- Experience building dashboards and semantic data models (Power BI preferred)
- Strong understanding of data modeling and warehousing concepts (e.g., dimensional modeling, star schema)
- Experience working with large, complex datasets including data cleansing, validation, and transformation
- Proven ability to operate independently and provide consultative insights that influence business decisions
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis and validation
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform preferred
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, Snowflake) a plus
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science)
