Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Computing Infrastructure Architect is responsible for facilitating and coordinating efforts to create, update, and communicate the architecture of the distributed computing infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Distributed Computing, will be the key liaison between Distributed Computing and users of the distributed computing infrastructure, including multiple departments computing applications and services, to ensure that the infrastructure meets the requirements of academic and administrative communities. This position requires a deep understanding of advanced distributed computing technologies, and the ability to influence developers of those technologies and the project team deploying them. The position involves extensive technical project participation and coordination across multiple projects as well as active involvement with vendors and standards bodies. Technologies include LDAP-based and active directory services, AFS, Kerberos and other security infrastructures, networking, and Java. Typical projects include Windows 2000 integration architecture, wireless networking strategy, administrative application integration architecture,single sign-on for administrative applications, ecommerce architecture, portal architecture, web security architecture, and PKI integration. Responsibilities include: Coordinate client's use of computing infrastructure technologies - In cooperation with appropriate staff and managers, continue the development of the framework and architecture for the distributed computing infrastructure for influence the information technology industry through participation in conferences and standards bodies; and Provide project technical review and coordination.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; Ten years progressively responsible experience in a complex networking and distributed computing environment; Proven multi-organization project management/consulting skills. In-depth experience with either distributed computing (e.g., Unix, Windows-NT, object oriented programming, TCP/IP networking and Internet technologies) or large administrative applications (e.g., RDBMS, modeling, ERP installations, web technology, and large-scale production); Specific knowledge of Internet security problems/solutions, authentication, authority and directory services issues; Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse range of activities in a very visible and pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems; Proven ability to develop technology deployment plans, including analysis of cost/benefit issues, detailed descriptions, and justifications; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including experience working with upper administration and senior technical professionals; Demonstrated facility with tools of the trade, e.g. scripting languages, web presentation, etc.; Experience in academic/research institutions highly desirable.
