Job description

The Team Leader of Telephony Applications is responsible for delivering consistent, reliable, and intuitive applications and components for a custom telephony experience across the enterprise. This includes ownership of all telephony APIs and associated application UIs in both the home office and branch locations. The role leads a technical team supporting application services (REST) and some application UIs covering Zoom Phone, Vonage, ServiceNow, and other vendor APIs. The team also provides REST services to other application owners, to abstract telephony and vendor specific APIs. Work is delivered through java application pipelines using Agile practices. What You'll Do:

  • Executes voice application integration with vendor and custom build applications to provide an enriched experience and improve individual capacity; translate into clear standards, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead a high-performing, multi-time-zone team of associates and contractors; foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and resilience through regular 1:1s, coaching, development plans, and performance reviews (SMART goals, annual evaluations).
  • Provide leadership during high-impact incidents; remove blockers, manage escalations, and maintain strong alignment with senior leaders, peer Team Leaders, and partner teams.
  • Own vendor relationships and performance (including SLAs for telephony APIs); partner with stakeholders (Business, RIM, Legal, platform owners) on requirements, risk, and change management while driving innovation that improves reliability, usability, and scale.
  • Bring deep application development expertise (e.g., multi-vendor API architecture, Agile practices, telephony/call flows, contact center routing, databases, caching technologies like Redis/Hazelcast, Kafka) and collaborate with Technical Architects on solution design and standards.
  • Own enterprise telephony APIs and custom applications end-to-end, including delivery, governance, adoption, and scalable support; ensure a consistent, reliable user experience across home office and branch environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' experience in software development
  • Lead Agile teams (8-10 members); mentor team members, review code, and drive best practices
  • Define architecture, standards, and lead technical decisions
  • Strong Java/Spring (Boot) + REST APIs; microservices & API security
  • Experience with system integrations (APIs, messaging, event-driven)
  • Proven problem-solving, communication, ownership, and cross-team collaboration

What Could Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's (or equivalent experience); advanced degree a plus
  • Agile/leadership certifications (CSM, SAFe, PMI-ACP, ITIL)
  • Telephony Knowledge (SIP, VoIP, CTI, IVR)
  • Platform Knowledge (Genesys, Cisco, Avaya, Twilio)
