Job description
We are looking for an IT Platform Engineer IV for the Innovation department at a major Dutch bank. This is a senior, bank-wide role where you act as the technical authority on platform engineering, helping shape direction across several innovation-focused initiatives. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside innovation managers, architects, and senior engineers, with the autonomy to set engineering standards rather than simply follow them.
The Innovation department plays a central role in delivering the bank's innovation agenda, working closely with the wider business. The culture is one of ownership, staying ahead of business and technology developments, and a fail-fast mentality, with initiatives prioritised by their impact on the organisation.
About the role
As IT Platform Engineer IV, you design, build, and govern highly complex, bank-wide platforms and services on Azure, following a "you build it, you run it" model. You will:
- Define and own the technical roadmap for platform engineering, ensuring alignment across teams and initiatives
- Act as technical lead and authority for complex engineering challenges, setting engineering standards and best practices
- Proactively identify and mitigate architectural, operational, and security risks across the platform
- Coordinate activities across multiple teams and domains, ensuring cross-team alignment and reuse of capabilities
Requirements
Do you have experience in TypeScript?, * 8+ years of proven experience running containerized workloads in production on Azure in corporate environments
- Hands-on experience with AKS, Container Apps, or App Service, and Azure DevOps for CI/CD
- Proficient writing Infrastructure as Code in Bicep and Terraform
- Solid understanding of IAM and networking concepts, with strong security awareness for public cloud and containerized workloads
- Strong programming expertise (Python, Java, TypeScript or equivalent) with experience designing backend-heavy systems
- Able to translate complex technical topics into clear narratives for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
