Job description

The incumbent works to maintain the integrity of server operating systems, hardware, storage and/or application software per designated area of responsibility. The incumbent maintains and monitors usage, performance and resources, and troubleshoots day to day issues. The incumbent will develop, configure, customize, document and modify configuration, patching and version maintenance as well as schedule testing, document audit and disaster recovery planning, and maintain technical documentation for assigned home grown or purchased software and hardware management tools and appliances. This position maintains and participates in audit and disaster recovery practices and functions as well as participates in root-cause problem analysis across all technology and business areas as required. The incumbent performs capacity planning and performance tuning activities for assigned area of responsibility and assists in the development of entry-level personnel through mentoring, technical training and other means.

Requirements

  • Seven years of experience in an IT related field Or, in lieu of seven years of experience a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in an IT related field
  • OR, in lieu of seven years of experience in one or more of the following listed above, a bachelor's degree and five years of experience in one or more of the following is acceptable:
  • System administration on Windows, UNIX, or other distributed platform
  • Systems Programmer on mainframe platform
  • Storage Management within a large Storage Area Network (SAN) environment
  • Software Development
  • Internal Audit
  • Information Security
  • Experience in a position demonstrating superior logical reasoning skills, problem solving skills and analytical skills
  • Interpersonal skills in order to translate technical knowledge for another's understanding
  • Experience in a position demonstrating proficiency to work with other team members, team leads, end users, business partners and management during day-to-day operations and project-based activities while ensuring software/hardware functionality, performance and availability
  • Willingness to develop and train entry-level staff on operational and appropriate systems management tasks related to their area of expertise and ensure that all levels of staff are involved in an ongoing process of professional and technical growth
  • Experience in a position managing day to day operational workload and assigned projects with respect to established deadlines and timeframes
  • Organizational skills in order to work with vendors and identify/notify management and team of pending patches, upgrades and functionality enhancements
  • Experience in a position maintaining and monitoring usage, performance and resources and troubleshooting day-to-day issues
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in a position performing documentation activities related to initial system configuration, change management, audit, and disaster recovery and business continuity while ensuring required documentation for all systems remains up-to-date
  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field is preferred
  • Advanced-level certification in mainframe, Db2 database, network, UNIX/Linux, or storage designations in a systems engineering track is preferred
  • Experience leading mid-scale projects related to IT infrastructure is preferred
  • Experience working in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment preferred
  • Knowledge of CICS architecture, internal interfaces and resource management is preferred
  • CICS systems programming experience preferred
  • SMP/E experience preferred
  • CICSPlex configuration and management preferred
  • Understanding of common mainframe utilities and programming languages like COBOL, JCL, SQL and REXX preferred
  • Performance and capacity management using BMC tools is a plus
  • CICS application programming experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with other core mainframe products such as Db2 and MQ is a plus
  • BMC tools support experience including installation, configuration, and maintenance is a plus
  • Automation development experience using languages and tools like REXX, Python, YAML, and Ansible is a plus
  • Advanced-level certification in mainframe, Db2 database, network, UNIX/Linux, or storage designations in a systems engineering track is a plus
