Manufacturing Digital Engineering (MDE) Product line is looking for a Product Designer to join our team of passionate product designers, software engineers, and product managers dedicated to build & support software products for our manufacturing plants worldwide.

In this position...

As a key member of our Manufacturing I.T. team, you will play a critical part in shaping the future of Ford's mobility and electrification efforts. You will be part of a team of dedicated software professionals that will help us to iteratively build and ship high-quality software products to help our customers build quality vehicles.

This position is hybrid with the expectation of being on-site with the team 4 days a week in Dearborn.

The hands-on Product Designer will have a proven ability to work with cross functional team including Advanced Manufacturing business partners, IT Staff, and end-users (including manufacturing engineers, industrial engineers) to lead the end-to-end design of accessible, scalable, and high-impact digital products.

What you'll do...

  • End-to-End Product Design: Lead the design process from initial discovery and user research through to high-fidelity prototyping, testing, and developer handoff.
  • User Research & Discovery: Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative research (interviews, surveys, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, and stakeholder workshops) to uncover user needs and align cross-functional teams.
  • Design Systems & Scalability: Build, scale, and document comprehensive design systems and reusable component libraries in Figma to ensure visual consistency and accelerate development cycles.
  • Information Architecture & Interaction Design: Create clear user flows, site maps, wireframes, and interactive prototypes that simplify complex workflows and optimize digital experiences.
  • Accessibility Leadership: Advocate for and implement inclusive design practices, ensuring all digital products comply with WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers to align design strategy with business goals, and work hand-in-hand with Front-End Engineers to ensure design feasibility and high-quality implementation.
  • Data-Informed Iteration: Analyze user feedback, behavioral data, and usability metrics to continuously iterate and improve product engagement, conversion, and task success rates.

Requirements

Do you have experience in User research for product design?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • 3 + more years of experience in product design.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your design skills.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with user research methodologies (user surveys, focus groups, personas)
  • Passion for technology and a desire to create user-centered products.

Even better, you may have...

  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of front-end development languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

This position is salary grades 6-8 and ranges from $85,400- 192,900.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
