Job description
This is not a traditional help desk-only role. The Systems Engineer will be part of TAG's proactive support team, whose goal is to continuously improve client environments before issues become bigger problems.
You will perform on-site and remote technology reviews, document findings, identify recurring issues, recognize risks, and work with our internal team to remediate problems. Through this process, you will help improve client reliability, security, documentation, and overall technology alignment.
The right person for this role is technical, detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working independently, and able to communicate professionally with clients and internal team members.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site and remote client technology reviews to measure alignment with TAG standards and best practices
- Review client environments across areas such as servers, workstations, Microsoft 365, backups, networking, firewalls, security, and documentation
- Identify gaps, risks, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement
- Remediate technical issues where appropriate and create tickets for additional follow-up
- Work with TAG's vCIOs, account managers, help desk, project team, and leadership to bring client environments into alignment
- Become a technical subject matter expert for assigned client environments
- Maintain and improve client documentation, configurations, diagrams, standards, and checklists
- Review backup status and assist with backup testing and restore validation
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients as a trusted technical resource
- Recognize patterns in recurring issues and help drive long-term remediation
- Participate in the rotating after-hours and weekend on-call schedule
- Assist other TAG team members when needed
- Represent TAG in a professional, friendly, and client-focused manner
- Track time and submit timesheets daily, The ideal candidate will have experience with many of the following:

- Azure / cloud hosting concepts
- Hyper-V / virtualization
- Remote Desktop / Terminal Server
- Firewalls, including SonicWall and Fortinet
- Routers, switches, wireless networks, and VPNs
- TCP/IP, routing, subnets, DNS, and DHCP
- Backup systems and restore testing
- Endpoint security, virus/malware remediation, and security best practices
- Printers and common business applications
- Mobile devices
- Hardware and software upgrades
- Client documentation and IT standards
Requirements
Do you have experience in Windows?, This is a Level 2+ technical role best suited for someone with hands-on experience across Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, networking, firewalls, backups, workstations, and client-facing IT support. Candidates with experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, Network Engineer, MSP Engineer, or IT Systems Engineer may be a strong fit., * Must currently reside in Rhode Island or Southeastern Massachusetts
- Must be willing to travel locally to client locations 3+ times per week
- 5+ years of hands-on IT experience in a similar role
- Strong Windows Server and Windows desktop background
- Solid understanding of networking, firewalls, VPNs, routing, subnets, DNS, and DHCP
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Group Policy, and server environments
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently and document findings clearly
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with clients
- Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team
